Abstract: Disclosed is a system and method for splitting dual lumens using hot stamping. The system includes a die assembly having a heated die with a septum that is configured to split the dual lumen to form a split catheter by splitting the septum of the dual lumen. The die can receive a pair of mandrels therethrough, wherein the mandrels are configured to support a dual lumen loaded thereon. The dual lumen and the mandrels are pushed via a block into the die until the dual lumen passes through the septum within the die and two lumens are fully formed. The lumens are cooled with an air blast and the mandrels are removed after the lumens are cooled.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to catheter assembly and components thereof. In one embodiment, a catheter assembly includes a catheter including a body with a proximal end and a distal end, wherein the body includes a first lumen and a second lumen. The lumens are substantially symmetrical and are joined together and split at the distal ends thereof. The distal ends are bent apart from each other such that the catheter resembles a Y-shape when viewed from the front. Each of the distal ends comprises a U-shaped cutout to prevent the inflow of blood from becoming blocked. Because the lumens are substantially equal in size, shape, and dimension, the connection can be reversed without high recirculation if one lumen is blocked.

Abstract: Disclosed is a tearaway sheath introducer. The sheath includes a sheath hub disposed on an end thereof, wherein the sheath is configured to receive a dilator therethrough, further wherein the dilator comprises a hub with a locking mechanism. The sheath hub is configured to retain a cap set having a molded valve therein. The cap set and the valve can be ultrasonically welded to the sheath hub such that the cap set and the valve are integral to the sheath hub. The valve prevents blood from coming out of a patient's incision site after the dilator is removed from the sheath, but before a catheter is inserted. In this way, the present invention improves the process of introducing catheters into the blood vessels.

Abstract: Disclosed is a catheter insertion assembly that includes an arterial lumen having a first stylet embedded therein and a venous lumen having a second stylet embedded therein, The stylets extend beyond the proximal and distal ends of each of the lumens. The second stylet of the venous lumen includes an aperture near the distal end thereof so as to receive the distal end of the first stylet of the arterial lumen therethrough, thereby connecting the venous and arterial lumens temporarily together when the catheter is being inserted into a patient. In this way, the stylets increase column strength for dual-tip catheters.

  • Publication number: 20170143890
Abstract: Disclosed is a dual lumen retrograde catheter and hub attachment for dialysis. The catheter includes a venous lumen and an arterial lumen that are attached to a proximal hub having at least one luer extension extending therefrom. The distal end of the catheter is configured to be inserted into the blood vessel and placed into a desired position. The proximal end is tunneled backwards under the skin using a trocar and exited. The proximal end of the catheter can attach to a proximal hub via a pair of cannulas with raised barbs for removably securing proximal ends of the lumens thereon. The lumens are secured in a side-by-side configuration via a compression cap that can be screwed onto the proximal hub to prevent the catheter from detaching from the proximal hub.
