  • Patent number: 5673449
Abstract: There is disclosed a bridge or like pillar (1) erected in a moving body of water in which the water may periodically flow in strata in one as well as the other of two opposite main flow directions. The pillar is provided with a flow compensation device including a motor-driven stream generator (9) which functions to set part of the water in motion thus compensating for the flow resistance exerted by the pillar in the water body.

  • Patent number: 5539790
Abstract: A strainer device for filtering water to an emergency cooling system in a nuclear power plant includes a housing or tube having a perforated or apertured strainer wall through which water may flow from the outside and into the interior of the housing in connection with the regular filtration of water taken in. A water-receiving accumulator tank is connected to the cavity of the strainer housing and a source of pressurized gas is connected to the tank in order, if required, to feed pressurized gas into the tank so as to momentarily force water out therefrom and into the cavity of the strainer housing while backflushing the same.

  • Patent number: 5534144
Abstract: A unit for treating liquid comprises a cylindrical container (1) which, in an upper chamber (6), has a set of slender tubes (8) which the liquid is forced to pass on its way from an inlet (10) to an outlet (9), so as to be subjected to a treatment, such as deionization, during this forced passage. An annular casing (11) is arranged in a lower chamber (7) and serves to distribute the liquid flowing in through the inlet (10). The casing (11) is defined by inner and outer side walls (12, 13) sealingly interconnected along an upper edge portion (14) as well as interconnected by at least one lower, transverse wall (15) which is provided with a plurality of small holes through which the liquid is squeezed out in the form of a large number of individual jets. The cross-sectional area of the liquid-distributing casing (11) continuously decreases away from the inlet (10) towards an opposite end (18) of the casing.

  • Patent number: 5492409
Abstract: A device for mixing two fluids having different temperatures comprises a connecting branch (6) extending into a main pipe (1) from a secondary pipe (2), said connecting branch having at its end positioned in the main pipe a distribution casing (7) with double annular walls, of which an inner wall (9) defines a channel (10) extending axially and centrally in the main pipe (1), and having apertures which allow a fluid (B) to be conducted into and mixed with the fluid (A) passing through the main pipe. The apertures consist of a plurality of small apertures (11) which are formed in the inner wall (9) of the distribution casing (7) and provide intermixing of the two fluids directly in the channel (10) positioned centrally in the main pipe (1).

  • Patent number: 5466272
Abstract: A steam separator including a tube which houses a blade arrangement consisting of a set of curved blades serving to rotate a mixture of steam and water in order to cause the water to form a film on the inside of the tube. The tube wall has a plurality of perforations through which the water can escape while the steam leaves through a special outlet tube. The individual blade of the blade arrangement has an axial extension at least twice as large as the largest width of the blade, as well as a curvature at least so pronounced that a trailing edge of an optional blade is angularly offset past an imaginary radial plane in the axial extension of a leading edge of an adjacent blade. The total area of the perforations amounts to 50-65% of the cross-sectional area of the separator tube.

  • Patent number: 5453180
Abstract: A back-flushable strainer is used for filtering water to an emergency cooling system in a nuclear power plant having a reactor arranged in a containment whose lower part forms a condensation pool in which the strainer is mounted. The strainer has a suitably cylindrical strainer wall having a plurality of perforations through which the water flows from the outside and in when filtering, while the direction of flow is the reverse in backflushing. A number of wings are arranged on the outside of the strainer wall, dividing a residue or fibre mat built up on the outside of the strainer wall into a number of sections which separately are more easily released than a continuous, circumferential fibre mat.

  • Patent number: 5427147
Abstract: A liquid-regulating valve comprises a cylinder tube (6) having holes (7) through which liquid can pass in radial jets. Further, the valve comprises a piston (9) and a distributing means (15) which is fixedly mounted in the cylinder-tube (6) and consists of several radial walls (16) upon which impinge the liquid jets entering through the cylinder tube holes (7) to be disintegrated and divided into part flows. At one end, the distributing means (15) has a cover plate (20) which, at the periphery, merges into an annular flange (21) projecting axially from the plate and serving to divert and guide the liquid part flows that, after impinging upon the radial walls of the distributing means, are directed towards the cover plate (20) and follow the plate along a substantially axial path of motion.

  • Patent number: 5426679
Abstract: A strainer device for filtering water to an emergency cooling system in a nuclear power plant containment area having a lower part which forms a pool in which the strainer device is mounted. The device includes a strainer housing with separate strainer walls between which a flexible strainer means operates. The unit is arranged to be kept in a first position when water is drawn through one of the strainer walls, in which position it interrupts the connection between the other strainer wall and a suction conduit. By inherent flexibility, a shield means is automatically switched over to a second position which opens the connection between the second strainer wall and the suction conduit, as soon as the first strainer wall is clogged by impurities to such an extent that a low-pressure arises in the space between the first strainer wall and the shield means unit, which low-pressure brings about the switching-over by its suction effect.
