  • Publication number: 20050061468
Abstract: The invention relates to a hot-top mold for a strand casting apparatus, consisting of a hot-top, which lies on the upper side of a parting agent distributor and presses it with its underside against the surface of a mold, an overhang being formed on the radially inner surface of the hot-top, which protrudes beyond the parting agent distributor in the direction of take off of the strand, the hot-top being centered and held by an outer ring, which is releasably fastened to the mold. The mold surrounds a function ring toward the bearing surface of the mold which, together with the parting agent distributor, forms function surfaces with adjustable roughness on the surfaces. In the parting agent distributor, radial channels are formed at the upper side and the underside, the channel cross sections at the upper side and the underside being in a ratio of 1:3 to 1:5 to one another.

  • Publication number: 20020153359
Abstract: Thc present invention includes a light metal cylinder block comprising a cylinder running face which is coated with silicon. The invention also includes a method by which the silicon is applied to the running face comprising melting powder metal silicon, which is fired at the face in a powdered metal beam, under heat of a laser which is fired at the running face at the point of impact of the powdered beam. Furthermore the invention includes a device with which the cylinder block may be manufactured.

  • Patent number: 6324978
Abstract: The invention relates to a printing plate substrate made of a rolled and embossed aluminum strip, wherein the surface has depressions with an average diameter of <25 &mgr;m and an aspect ratio of <1.5 (ratio length/width relative to the transport direction of the strip). The number of depressions is >2,500/mm2. The invention also relates to a method of making an aluminum printing plate substrate, wherein the surface of the aluminum strip is roughened using rollers. The surfaces of the rollers have microscopically small, stochastically distributed, dome-shaped projections. In cross-sectional view, the rollers have a round ridge-shaped roughness profile. The invention is also directed to an offset printing plate, wherein a printing plate substrate is produced with the method and provided with an anodically deposited oxide layer. A light-sensitive hydrophobic, oleophilic layer is deposited on the oxide layer.

  • Patent number: 5320159
Abstract: Mold apparatus for continuous casting of metal, has an intermediate plate for supplying one or more mold release agents to the surface of the billet or ingot forming in a cooled mold. The intermediate plate has outlet openings which terminate in an intermediate area between a hot top section and a mold section in which the molten metal solidifies. The intermediate release agent supply plate having a central cross sectional opening is provided between the hot top section and the mold section, the surface of the central opening, adjoining the surfaces of the hot top section and the mold section. The intermediate plate comprises a flat plate having release agent-supply channels that extend to the opening edge and are precision-formed into the upper and lower surfaces of the intermediate plate to a constant depth. Liquid and/or gaseous mold release agents are fed through the supply plate to lubricate the mold surface along which the ingot is formed, cooled and lowered.

  • Patent number: 5273737
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for preparing crystalline gallosilicates having a molar ratio of SiO.sub.2 /Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 .gtoreq.5 an having a more uniform particle size with enhanced catalytic activity. According to the method of the invention, crystalline gallosilicates are prepared by adding an aged, gallosilicate nuclei-forming gel having a molar ratio of SiO.sub.2 /Ga.sub.2 O.sub.3 .gtoreq.5 to an aqueous, alkaline solution containing reactive silicon and gallium compounds to form a mixture. The mixture is then subjected to hydrothermal crystallization conditions to form the crystalline gallosilicate. The gallosilicates prepared by the disclosed method is useful for the preparation of catalysts and adsorbents and in processes for converting low molecular weight hydrocarbons to higher aliphatics and aromatic compounds.
