Abstract: In a stitching machine having a main shaft, a stitching needle and a looper and means for driving the shuttle so that the looper effects thread loop seizing and dropping movements and needle evading movements, the improvement in which the means for driving the looper comprises a crank rigidly connected to the main shaft, a slide mounted on the crank for driving by the crank, the slide having a free end which is formed with an outer spherical surface and an inner spherical surface which is offset relative to the outer spherical surface, a guide cylinder having a segment shaped cut out, the outer spherical surface being received in and guided by the guide cylinder, a ball having a bore and being rotatably mounted in the inner spherical surface, a looper shaft for mounting the shuttle, a transmission lever having one end rigidly connected to the looper shaft and the other end in engagement with the bore in the ball.

Abstract: Apparatus for opening and spreading the legs of a seam joining two fabric parts, preparatory to the pressing of the legs of the seam, comprising a first rail having an edge against which the legs of the seam are to be guided, a second rail parallel to the plane in which the pressing is to be effected and having an edge against which the sewn together fabric parts are to be tensioned, the edge of the first rail being spaced from the edge of the second rail toward the center of the second rail by a distance at least equal to the length of one of the legs, the edge of the first rail extending at an angle of from 60.degree.-90.degree.

Abstract: There is disclosed a sewing machine and ironing device for sewing and ironing seams in which two ironing elements are disposed on opposite sides of the path followed by the seam as it issues from a region at which the sewing is completed, one of which is urged towards the other magnetically to apply ironing pressure to a seam disposed therebetween.
