Abstract: There is provided a method of and apparatus for streaming data. Data segments containing audio and/or video data content are received over a network. The data segments are stored in a buffer. It is determined that the network has capacity to provide the content in the data segments at a higher quality than is currently stored in the buffer prior to playout of the data segments. A higher quality version of content of one or more data segments in the buffer that have the latest relative playout time are requested in preference to requesting a higher quality version of content of data segments that have earlier relative playout times.

Abstract: Bag-sealing apparatus is provided for heat-sealing a bag. The apparatus has a heater arrangement operable to apply heat to heat-seal an open end of the bag. A bag detector detects the location of the bag relative to the heater arrangement. The heater arrangement is formed of plural heater portions. The heater arrangement is operable such that only the or each heater portion that overlies the bag as detected by the bag detector is caused to operate to apply heat to the bag.

Abstract: Device for detecting formation of water ice on a substrate has a first permanent magnet and a second permanent magnet. The magnets are spaced apart and arranged with a north pole of one magnet opposed to a south pole of the other magnet. A container contains a body of water within the space between the permanent magnets. At least one of the magnets is movable in the container. A heat conductor arrangement conducts heat between the substrate and the body of water the container. As heat is conducted from the body of water in the container to the substrate and the temperature of the body of water decreases below the temperature at which the density of water is a maximum, the volume of the body of water increases which drives the first and second permanent magnets apart from each other.

Abstract: A method for remotely controlling a computing device comprises repeatedly capturing an image from a video frame, detecting a human face in the captured image, matching the detected human face to a previously detected human face, extracting facial landmarks from the matched detected human face, estimating a 3D head pose of the matched detected human face based on the extracted facial landmarks, the 3D head pose being represented in an egocentric coordinate system by a 3D pose vector which is directed from the human face, the 3D pose vector being free to rotate around x-, y- and z-axes of the egocentric coordinate system using respective rotation matrices and free to translate along these x-, y- and z-axes using a translation vector, and controlling a user interface on a display screen of the computing device according to the estimated 3D head pose.
