Abstract: A computer program for an interactive computer music game is stored on a medium that can be read by a general purpose computer. When read and executed, the program causes the computer to perform functions, including associating a music track on a user compact disc (CD) inserted in the computer's CD-ROM drive with a selected song associated with a music track on a reference CD, and synchronizing music data stored by the computer to the music track on the user CD, where the music data has been derived from the music track on the reference CD associated with the selected song. The program generates user-CD data characteristic of the digital data on the user-CD track, and compares the user-CD data with reference-CD data characteristic of the digital data on the reference-CD track.

Abstract: A musical instrument including an actuator which generates a plurality of signals in response to being played by a user; an audio synthesizer which generates audio tones in response to control signals; a memory storing a musical score for the actuator; a video display unit; and a digital processing means controlling the audio synthesizer and the video display unit. The stored musical score includes a sequence of lead notes each of which has an associated time stamp to identify a time at which it is supposed to be played in the musical score.

Abstract: A virtual musical instrument including a hand-held accessory of a type that is intended to be brought into contact with a musical instrument so as to play that instrument. The hand-held accessory includes a switch which, in response to the hand-held accessory being caused to strike another object by a person holding it, generates an activation signal. The musical instrument also includes an audio synthesizer; a memory storing a sequence of notes data structures for a musical score, each of the notes data structures representing a note or notes within said musical score and having an identified location in time relative to the other notes in the sequence; a timer; and a digital processor receiving the activation signal and generating a control signal therefrom.
