Abstract: A construction of RTU assembly having a number of independently operational cells for systems functions is provided. Each cell is formed from a configurable component and effectively could be of the same construction as a conventional RTU that would be used for a particular function. There is inter-cell communication for the continuous downloading of information between cells. Ideally the information is controlled in such a way that each cell is aware of all the information that is being transferred, but only receives that information that it requires. In this way all the functions can be performed and the cells operate as equal peers and no one cell has priority over the other cells, such that the failure of one cell will cause the failure of all the others. There can be duplication of function in the cells and various “redundancy” of power, and I/O ports is built into the system.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a control system for automatically reconnecting power to customers in a distribution automation multi-feed power network on a fault disconnecting customers in the network. This invention provides the simple switching architecture with local control means that are implemented in the event of a fault. Each switch in the system has an intelligent switch controller which results in a faster restoration time which reduces customer down time in the event of a fault in the network. The system operates without the need for complex communication systems or central controllers. Each intelligent switch controller has the ability to cause its respective switch to open or close in the event of a fault. The network may be restored in a sequential manner subsequent to the detection of a fault in the network thereby allowing for the simple detection of the location of a fault.
Abstract: A distribution automation remote terminal unit (DA RTU) for electrical power distribution which has remote terminal units for plant units forming the distribution network. The DA RTU is divided into at least two independently operable units with separate power supplies and I/O ports and an inter unit communication means between the units. Preferably one unit is a measurement and protection unit and the other a communications and control unit.
