Abstract: In a continuous-casting apparatus with a mold-supporting device (4) and a mold (1) mounted to oscillate relative to the supporting device, the mold (1) is supported via guide elements (7, 10) extending approximately transversely to the direction of oscillation arranged approximately parallel to one another and, relative to the direction of oscillation (III), at a distance (12) one above the other. At least one first guide element (7) extends from the mold-supporting device (4) towards the mold (1) in a first direction (I) and at least one second guide element (10) extends from the mold-supporting device (4) towards the mold (I) in a direction (II) opposite to the first direction (I).

Abstract: The machine includes a mold to be inserted in a frame-type mold table, a strand guide connected downstream of the mold and a mold oscillator supporting and moving the mold table. In order to minimize restranding times during section change through the formation of a section-related machine head, a first strand guide segment is detachably integrated in a strand guide segment connected downstream and a mold stirrer is supported on the second strand guide segment.
Abstract: In a process for reducing particulate oxide-containing material using the whirl bed method, the oxide-containing material, by means of reducing gas flowing from bottom to top, is maintained in the whirl layer, thus being reduced. In order to avoid or considerably reduce operational interruptions of the reduction process caused by sticking or fouling, the clear tube speed (superficial velocity) of the reducing gas, exclusively above the whirl layer, is continuously lowered along the total free height of a space above the whirl layer while the formation of further whirl formations is avoided.

Abstract: A scrap-melting electric arc furnace operating at an elevated melting power having a simple construction that also avoids thermal loads of the side wall caused by the electrodes. The electrodes are protected from damage during scrap-charging. The electric arc furnace includes a bottom for receiving a melt. An upper part rises from the bottom part and has side walls. A lid covers the upper part. A charging shaft is disposed approximately centrically relative to the upper part, and has a diameter that is substantially smaller than the diameter of the upper part. The charging shaft interior communicates with the furnace interior via an opening in the lid. Electrodes arranged approximately radially symmetrically are directed obliquely into the furnace interior and project toward the center of the electric arc furnace.

Abstract: A support device (1) for foundry ladles (13, 14) for a continuous casting plant has a stationary fixed base and a rotary base (4) mounted rotatably with respect to the fixed base and rotatable by means of a rotary drive, on which rotary base at least one support arm system (11, 12) for receiving a foundry ladle (13, 14) is articulated by a parallelogram linkage system (15) with arms (17 to 20) pivotable about horizontal bearing axes (24, 25), with support arm system (11, 12) viewed in outline having a rigid U-shaped support part (26) surrounding a foundry ladle (13, 14) on which part (26) foundry ladle (13, 14) is supportable and can be raised and lowered by at least one pressurized cylinder (16) with respect to rotary base (4).
