  • Patent number: 5865051
Abstract: Procedure and apparatus for the optimized manufacture of coil springs on automatic spring winding machines. It is the object of the present invention to offer both a procedure and an apparatus by which even in case of fluctuating values of the wire parameters high accuracies during the spring manufacture are guaranteed and simultaneously the scrap is minimized. The solution to this problem is that prior to the winding the wire parameters are determined and the measuring results are used directly for the adjustment of the position of the winding pins or winding rollers and/or the pitch wedge, and that the wire between the uncoiling device and the guiding assembly forms a loop whereby the lateral deflection of this wire loop is measured by a recognition unit and the uncoiling device carries out an additional movement controlled by the recognition unit.

  • Patent number: 5816091
Abstract: In order to obtain better noise protection, longer service life of machine and tools, and to increase the productivity of wire shaping apparatuses, in particular, a universal spring winding machine with a cutting device (16) consisting essentially of a movable cutting tool (38) with drive (80) and a stationary cutting tool (150) at which the endless intaken wire is cut, this invention suggests:to conceive the drive of the cutting tool (38) in the form of a fluid operated cylinder piston aggregate cutting cylinder (80) with program-controllable NC valve (78);to fix the movable cutting tool (38) by means of an adapter (158) to the movable part of the aggregate (piston rod 154);to bring the moving direction of the latter (154) into accordance with the shearing direction of the movable cutting tool (38).

  • Patent number: 5250008
Abstract: An apparatus for making elongated headed workpieces having a conveyor device for successively transporting elongated workpieces such as wire pieces transversely to their longitudinal axes from one treatment station into at least one treatment station and including a guided conveyor belt assembly to which the workpieces may be clamped by their circumferential surfaces. Two sections, running together and side by side, of two conveyor belts are guided in such a manner between the stations that they remain in immovable contact on both sides with the transported workpieces. At least one of the two conveyor belts is a toothed belt in which the gaps between the teeth take up the workpieces singly.

  • Patent number: 5127252
Abstract: Apparatus for clamping and working wire pieces has two separate rotary shafts (16) of the clamping levers (18 and 20), arranged symmetrically and with the axis of intake of the wire (82) and the direction of upsetting or hammering at right angles to the axes of rotation of the levers and to the axis of the cam shaft (34), the said direction (82) intersecting the said shaft (34) and passing centrally between the two rotary shafts (16), and on the other hand in directly controlling the clamping levers (18 and 20) by frictional connection rising one or more than one cam (32) on the cam shaft (34) and one cam roller (30) for each cam, the said roller (30) being situated on the lever arm (26 or 38) remote from the tools, the frictional connection being provided by a frictional connection maintaining device (54) which keeps the roller (30) in contact with the cam (32).

  • Patent number: 5105641
Abstract: This invention relates to an apparatus for the forming of wire, namely a leg or spiral spring winding and bending machine. It is an object of the present invention to reduce the expenditure for the production of the apparatus and to universalize the forming operations which can be carried out with each tool. The apparatus including a plurality of tools (86, 88, 90, 92 or 142; 162, 190, 192) on a tool holder (74; 160) which is fixed at the free end of a longitudinally displaceable shaft (12) resembling the known winding spindle and is replaceable. Every existing tool can be brought into the pathway of the wire and hence into operation by positioning the shaft by rotation and longitudinal displacement by means of a drive which is known from the conventional winding spindle but differently controlled. The advantage of this apparatus is that it is of simplified construction and enables the same tools to be used for producing different forms of springs.

  • Patent number: 5088312
Abstract: An upsetting device for upsetting the ends of elongated workpieces such as wire pieces and the use of such a device in a wire-working nail press. The device includes an upsetting tool moveable forwards and backwards by means of an upsetting carriage. The upsetting tool is separate from the upsetting carriage and mounted to be displaceable in its direction of movement in its own longitudinal guide separately from the carriage guide. The upsetting tool also positively bears against the part of the upsetting carriage which acts on it.

  • Patent number: 5069059
Abstract: A positioning device for arranging elongated workpieces, such as wire pieces which are to be worked up into headed nails, and the use of such a device in a wire-working machine, includes at least one positioning tool for displacing at least one workpiece in its axial direction by a predetermined distance. The tool is a rigid body which is displaceable parallel to its longitudinal direction. The positioning device may include an additional positioning tool to push the workpieces slightly backward, to compensate for any tolerances in the nominal length of the workpieces of each batch of workpieces.

  • Patent number: 4955118
Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing barbed strap coils without a core by means of a ring coiling device (50) that has no winder provides a single clamping device (96), whereby the coiling is interrupted for the placement of a clamp. A guide device (11B) is arranged in front of the clamping device (6) by means of which two strap sections separated by one loop can be pushed toward the clamping device (96) by means of a strap feeding device (38). The two coils are guided outside the interruption in the coiling synchronously and in like phase through the location where the clamps are applied, by a synchronization device (60) in the clamping device (96) which engages slip-free in the two strap sections by means of a member (62). A counter (80) that counts the member movements between two successive clamping steps is coupled with member (162).

  • Patent number: 4694644
Abstract: A straight wire length is bent against a mandrel into an obtuse V-shape and then into a C-shape at a first station, and against another mandrel into an oval shape at a second station. When making the V-shape bend the leading edge of the wire length is thereby contained against perpendicular movement. The wire length is then bent into a C-shape and when it is moved from the first station to the second station the stop is pivoted against the force of the spring by a bar transforming the V-shape to the C-shape. When the emerging C-shaped link clears the support surface of the stop element, the spring returns the stop element to its initial position in the first bending station, against a stop. The surface of the stop element contacting the stop may serve as an electrical contact for process control.

  • Patent number: 4680926
Abstract: The chain links are bent in a single bending station, using a single mandrel. Pieces of wire of a given uniform length are bent into a V-shape between a holder and a suitably shaped recess in the mandrel. A wire feed sleeve and a wire receiving sleeve are disposed opposite one another defining a wire path between the holder and mandrel. Wire guides having guide surfaces guide the wire in its feed path from the feed sleeve to the receiving sleeve. The receiving sleeve has an abutment member provided with a support surface which, with the feed sleeve, prevents the leading and trailing ends of the wire piece from moving in a direction perpendicular to the direction of wire feed during the V shape bend. The two sleeves, each of which is formed together with a bending tool, are then retracted to free the wire ends, and the bending tools are moved perpendicular to the wire feed direction to bend the wire ends around the mandrel into a C-shape.

  • Patent number: 4572249
Abstract: A fabric manufacturing device having a drive to rotate a coiling mandrel (the so-called weaving blade), which, in order to avoid the difficulties of positioning the mandrel by means of motor, transmission, coupling and brake and in order to improve the productivity of the device, utiizes an electro-hydraulic torque amplifier as the mandrel drive, having an electrical step motor as a set-point value indicator, a switch valve as a servovalve and a hydromotor as an actual drive motor. A control device is provided which includes a positioning element for the step-wise positioning of the coiling mandrel in the rotational positions desired for certain points in time. In this manner, the invention automatically assures that the mandrel will precisely reach the desired rotational position and assures manufacturing of fabric with the highest possible rate of addition.
