Abstract: A cutting apparatus for use with a machine tool is disclosed. The cutting apparatus includes a removable nosepiece assembly having a retainer and a nosepiece that fits over the retainer. The nosepiece includes a pair of bores configured to receive lock pins which cooperate with the retainer to securely hold the nosepiece with respect to the cutter body. This allows cutter inserts to be located both along the circumference of the nosepiece and across the frontal face of the nosepiece.
Abstract: A coolant inducer pipe has one end thereof communicating with a source of coolant and is fixedly supported to place the opposite open end thereof adjacent to and beneath a machine tool spindle. The coolant inducer pipe is engageable with a coolant inducer ring on a metal cutting tool simultaneously with engagement of the cutting tool shank within the machine tool spindle.
Abstract: An indexable insert drill is disclosed that avoids formation of a breakout slug and therefore is particularly suited for drilling a laminate workpiece or stacked workpieces. The tool includes a cylindrical body provided with opposed flutes. A radially inner indexable carbide insert is releasably secured in the back wall of one flute at the leading end of the body and a radially outer insert is similarly secured in the back wall of the opposed flute. The inserts present an active cutting edge generally disposed in a transverse plane containing the axis of the tool and in axially leading relation relative to the tool body, and together are adapted to cut a hole of given diameter with the active cutting edges providing for overlap therebetween.
Abstract: A trepanning cutting tool for producing a through hole in a metal workpiece by cutting an annular groove about a removable core utilizes four (4) carbide cutting inserts. The cutting inserts are so arranged that they sever the radial span of the annular groove into six (6) relatively small segments which can be readily evacuated from the cutting region in the form of chips.
