Publication number: 20170362030Abstract: An articulated front loader arm structure is provided for use with a conventional refuse collection vehicle having a conventional cab chassis. The articulated arm structure is controlled by a programmed logic controller (PLC) which for monitors and controls the movement of the front loader articulated arm structure. The PLC communicates with various cylinders and sensors to control the extension/retraction of the various cylinders associated with the various arm sections of the front loader arm structure during movement through both its container dump cycle and its container return cycle. The articulated arm structure allows the present front loader arm mechanism to both extend over a conventional cab chassis as well as to be stored on top of the refuse vehicle under the current legal height restriction of 13 feet, 6 inches.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2016Publication date: December 21, 2017Applicant: Wayne Industrial Holdings, LLCInventor: David Alan Steimel

Patent number: 9764894Abstract: A refuse collection vehicle body having a receiving hopper with a pendulum packer device mounted for arcuate movement therewithin, a tapered storage compartment for receiving refuse material from the receiving hopper, a tailgate assembly having a pneumatic mechanism for controlling the tailgate latch mechanism, and an ejection system for dumping the refuse material collected within the storage compartment, the storage compartment having a trough or channel associated with its top portion for housing the hydraulic cylinders associated with the pendulum packer device and the tailgate assembly. The hydraulic cylinder associated with the ejection system as well as the hydraulic tank and hydraulic fluid cooler associated with the vehicle body are all positioned over hazmat containment devices to contain any leakage from these components during normal operation. The tapered storage compartment is formed by joining two rectangular sheets of material to a pair of wedge shaped members.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2015Date of Patent: September 19, 2017Assignee: Wayne Industrial Holdings, LLCInventors: Dean S Steege, Curtis J Lellig, Douglas A Halbur

Patent number: 8584362Abstract: The present invention is a refuse truck lift arm with sections that are bolted, not welded, together. Where the sections are joined together there is a recess and key arrangement. The key is seated in the recess of each half and straddles the inner face that divides them. In this way, shear forces that would otherwise be entirely borne by the bolts are also placed on the key. Each of the three sections, called “weldments,” are welded together in a novel way. The welding placement and sequence reduces welding distortion. Two C-shaped steel pieces are used for each straight section of each weldment. First, interior reinforcing brackets are welded into each C-section. Next, the two C-shaped sections are welded together, with the weld being between the edges that will form the thin side of the arm.Type: GrantFiled: November 6, 2008Date of Patent: November 19, 2013Assignee: Wayne Industrial Holdings, LLCInventors: Richard Mezera, Kevin Watje, Doug Halbur, Dean Steege

Publication number: 20130302119Abstract: A lift arm controller for a refuse truck has a lift arm, a gripper dimensioned for gripping and holding a refuse container, a carriage on the lift arm to translate along it and a gripper mounted on the carriage. A lift actuator is operationally attached to the carriage to translate the carriage, gripper and the refuse container along the lift arm. At least one sensor is configured to sense when the carriage is entering a near end portion of the lift arm and a signal to a controller. The controller is in operative communication with the sensor and the lift actuator and is configured to signal the lift actuator to operate at a slower speed when a signal is received from the sensor. The sensor may be an inclinometer. The inclinometer may also be used to maintain the gripper in a substantially level orientation.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2012Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: Wayne Industrial Holdings, LLCInventor: Dean Steege
