  • Patent number: 6485566
Abstract: Prewetting yarn by applying a liquid spray to the yarn before applying size to the yarn. A yarn sheet comprising a plurality of yarns is moved past one or more sprayers for directing a spray of prewetting liquid to the surface of the yarn. The amount of prewetting liquid sprayed onto the yarn is determined by various yarn parameters, and is adjusted in response to the speed of the moving yarn sheet so that variations in speed do not affect the amount of prewetting liquid sprayed onto the yarn. The amount of time elapsing between spraying the yarn with prewetting liquid and applying size to the yarn may be varied, to adjust the time for the prewetting spray to penetrate the yarn.

  • Patent number: 6076243
Abstract: Apparatus used with a yarn warper or beamer to uncross yarn ends that have become crossed during a warping operation. An element shaped like a knuckle moves back and forth across a side of the yarn sheet while protruding into the path of yarn ends making up that sheet. The motion of the knuckle against the side of the yarn sheet raises each yarn slightly, then allows the yarn to return to its original position. This motion dislodges yarn ends that have become crossed and allows them to return to their proper registration in the yarn sheet. The end uncrossing device may be located either downstream or upstream from the comb assembly in a warper.

  • Patent number: 5956826
Abstract: Apparatus and method for removing an induced flow of particulate-bearing air traveling with a moving yarn sheet in a winding apparatus such as a textile warping machine. An air nozzle produces a thin sheet of air moving in a counterflow direction to the induced air flow, and located adjacent the carrier roll of the warper. The air sheet entrains a volume of ambient air for movement with the air sheet, and the mass flow of the counterflow-moving air is sufficient to redirect the induced air from the yarn sheet for removal from the warper. An optional second nozzle may provide additional air entrainment above the moving yarn sheet, upstream from the carrier roll, thereby entraining a flow of air moving through the yarn sheet to divert dust and other particulates traveling on or with the yarn sheet.
