  • Patent number: 6013148
Abstract: The ends of material webs or tapes are joined to each other in an apparatus in which two holding and press-on heads are tiltable about fixed journal xes away from two fixed guide rollers for the webs so that a slide carriage for the heads and for the fixed guide rollers is avoided. The holding and press-on heads are mounted outside of the spacing between the guide rollers, but close to these guide rollers, but with a defined spacing from these guide rollers.

  • Patent number: 5938193
Abstract: Flat articles such as letter envelopes or letter envelope blanks or the like are aligned for further processing by transporting the articles through an alignment path with the help of a pulling mechanism that seizes or entrains each individual article along its leading edge as viewed in the transport direction and moves the article by pulling the article against a stop member or members which are also moved, but with a slower speed than the pulling of the article. Once the leading edge of the article bears against the stop member or members, the article is aligned and ready for further processing. The entraining or seizing takes place in an area positioned substantially centrally along the leading edge of an article between ends of the leading edge of an article.

  • Patent number: 5776285
Abstract: Adhesive, preferably pressure sensitive adhesive, is applied to an article f manufacture, such as the closure flap of an envelope or paper bag in such a way that the adhesive is protected against activation prior to closing the article. For this purpose, the adhesive is first applied to a continuous web or tape of a carrier material that either has an inherent anti-stick characteristic or is provided with an anti-stick surface coating relative to the adhesive to be applied. Preferably, the adhesive does not cover the entire surface of the carrier strip, but rather covers only areas in the form of stripes extending at least partly across the width of the carrier web. The adhesive stripes are spaced from one another and preferably also from at least one edge of the carrier web or tape. The carrier web is then severed into strips, each provided with one adhesive stripe and these strips with the adhesive stripes thereon are then secured between two rollers to the surface area to be provided with the adhesive.

  • Patent number: 5558612
Abstract: An article of manufacture, such as letter envelopes, paper bags, shipping uches, and the like is manufactured continuously on a production line that includes a back folding or so-called zig-zagging station which folds back one of the bottom flaps, first in a direction opposite to the continuing feed advance and then in the direction of the feed advance, whereby the formation of so-called bed bottoms or stand-up bottoms for these articles is facilitated. A cross strip (43) of a front or back portion of the article and respective precreases are used as a folding arm and fold lines in the formation of the zig-zag fold.

  • Patent number: 5393196
Abstract: Articles, such as envelopes, are formed into stacks that are transported to packing station. For this purpose a stacking and transport mechanism is positioned between a depositing mechanism (4, 4a) and the packing station. Continuously and individually arriving articles are set with one of their edges (6, 6a) on a stacking surface (7, 7a). The articles to be stacked are first held at the beginning of the formation of a stack (10, 10a), by a first, forward or leading stack holder (8, 8a) which moves in the direction in which the stack (10, 10a) increases, (FIG. 4 ) toward the packing station. Thereafter, a second forward or leading stack holder (9, 9a) takes the position of the first, forward stack holder (8, 8a) (FIG. 6 ). Upon completion of the stack (10, 11 or 10a, 11a) (FIG.

  • Patent number: 5373680
Abstract: An apparatus for folding and packaging of hygiene products such as tissues r sanitary napkins has two operational lines arranged in parallel between an input feeder and a packaging station. One of the lines includes stations for folding, enveloping, embossing, and cutting operations. The other line includes one or more transport mechanisms that by-pass the first mentioned line to transport articles directly from the inlet to a packaging station. Thus, if desired, articles may be supplied to the packaging station without any folding or other intermediate treatment by using the by-pass line. An output feeder is arranged to cooperate with either the main production line or the by-pass line for feeding articles to a packing station.

  • Patent number: 5292300
Abstract: An enclosure such as a letter envelope, a casing, shipping pouch, file for, or the like, is made of paper or similar suitable material to have a front portion (3) and a back portion (4) as well as side flaps (6) and (7). The enclosure may be provided with a closure flap (23) that is either part of the front portion (3) or part of the back portion (4). A bottom portion (5) is arranged between the back portion (4) and the front portion (3), whereby the bottom portion is preferably an integral component of the front and back portions. The side flaps (6, 7) are provided with respective folding creases extending longitudinally and foldable bottom side tongues (18, 19) are provided at the bottom end of the side flap (6, 7). These basic features are common to a plurality of different enclosures which provide a substantially larger enclosed volume than heretofore.

  • Patent number: 5245728
Abstract: Absorbent flakes or particles are transported from a source to a pad form device by an air flow passing the flakes or particles through a conduit between the source and the pad forming device. In order to supply a homogenous flake flow to the pad forming device, baffle devices or at least one baffle device is arranged in the conduit. The baffle device or baffle devices are equipped with baffling rods arranged in a certain position within the baffling device housing so that the flake air mixture must flow through the spaces between neighboring baffling rods to assure a dissolution of any flake accumulations or clumps. Preferably, a cross-section flow area reducer is arranged upstream of each baffling device to increase the flow speed or velocity of the flow entering the respective baffling device.

  • Patent number: 5201982
Abstract: Self-sealing envelopes having an envelope front with two side flaps and a osure flap, and a bottom flap with an edge strip along the free edge of the bottom flap, are produced by cutting blanks to size, and producing precreases along lines where folds will be made to fold all flaps. A self-sealing adhesive is applied to the inner surface on the closure flap and on the outer surface of the bottom flap edge strip. All precreases are formed on the same side of the blank, whereby the edge strip must be folded in a direction opposite to its precrease. This feature facilitates the movement of the blank through the envelope production machine into which the blank moves with the edge strip leading in the feed advance direction, and all creasing tools operate in the same creasing direction, whereby all precreasing tools can be located on the same side of the blank.

  • Patent number: 5176615
Abstract: An apparatus for folding hygienic products, especially soft, oblong artic having a small thickness, has a folding tool that is driven by a drive mechanism providing two rotary motions one superimposed on the other and interlinked in such a way that the folding tool applies pressure along an intended fold-line, whereby the article being folded is pushed while being folded in a transport direction. The interlinking of the two superimposed motions assures a quiet, smooth, yet high speed run of the folding tool and its drive mechanism. By pushing the article along its fold-line into a gap or take-up channel, a positive folding of the article is assured, whereby already folded portions are prevented from unfolding again.
