  • Patent number: 5186705
Abstract: An approved method and apparatus for forming clasp envelopes. The apertures extending through the top and bottom panels of the envelope body and the clasp receiving aperture extending through the top flap are formed after the envelope has been completely assembled save for the folding of the top flap for shipping. This ensures that the apertures extending through the top and bottom panels of the envelope body are in perfect registration. Reinforcement tape is applied on the top flap of the envelope, through which the aperture in the top flap extends, after the envelopes have been cut from the continuous strip of envelope blanks. This ensures that the cutting device used to sever the continuous strip into individual envelopes must cut only paper, thus improving longevity of the cutting device, and allows a single punch device to be used to form the hole and the apertures. Additionally, the method and apparatus employ an improved device for applying the clasp to the back panel of the envelope body.

  • Patent number: 5088707
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing numerically correct partial stacks from individual leaves or sheets interfolded in a U-shaped or zigzag form on an interfolder. A double stream is formed from one or more streams of sheets by staggering or guiding together. This double stream is then continuously folded into zigzag form and piled up in a continuously growing stack, from which partial stacks of a specific size are separated. Gaps are formed in the streams of sheets which simplify the introduction of separating elements into the stack. For this purpose, sheets are removed from the streams of sheets and optionally placed accurately in position on successive sheets.

  • Patent number: 5087464
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for producing multi-layered confectionery comprising aligning the confectionery on a conveyor system in rows oriented at right angles to the transport direction of movement of the conveyor system; building up the confectionery layer by layer by a first, a second and succeeding applicators for delivering a confectionery mass deposited onto the confectionery the applicators being arranged one behind the other along the transport direction; optically detecting each row of confectionery before the row reaches the second and all succeeding applicators; generating a signal based upon the position of each row relative to the respective applicator; and this signal controlling the spatial position of the applicator and its application time interval in such a way that the delivered mass deposited by the applicator is placed exactly in a predetermined position onto the row of confectionery passing below the applicators.

  • Patent number: 4936816
Abstract: A process and apparatus for opening the sealing flaps of a carton using drive elements for spreading or folding such sealing flaps open as required for packaging cartons having sealed bottoms. The boxes are inverted and lowered from a floating position with the bottom up and the sealing flaps hanging down. The flaps are placed on drive elements which move away from each other and in the flap opening direction. The box is then moved to a packaging area in the inverted position and lowered over the materials to be packaged.

  • Patent number: 4917365
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for dividing a moving stack of flexible workpieces, such as paper hand towels, face towels and the like, which are interfolded with one another in a zigzag manner, into partial stacks comprised of predetermined numbers of such workpieces, and for transferring such partial stacks to a depositing table. One of the material webs participating in the manufacture of the flexible workpieces is first marked, the spacing between the marks being adjusted to correspond with the number of towels required in the partial stack. Downstream of the folding device, the stack formed thereby is reversed upwardly and scanned by an optical detector which reads the marking and controls a separating blade, which is driven into the stack and lifted. The gap formed by the separating blade is engaged by lifting forks, which lift the partial stack to the level of the depositing table, where the partial stack is taken over by transport forks and guided across the depositing table.

  • Patent number: 4896480
Abstract: A method and apparatus for placing a cover on a box is provided wherein the box cover is first lowered inclined and placed on the opening of a moving box such that its edge leading in the direction of motion grips across the edge of the opening of the box leading in the direction of motion, and its edge trailing in the direction of motion, which edge is inclined upwardly, remains supported. The box is moved or advanced in the direction of motion so that the box pulls the cover from the support supporting the trailing edge of the cover and the latter places itself on the opening of the box. Pressure is then applied to the cover from above in order to completely force the cover over the edges of the opening of the box.

  • Patent number: 4709606
Abstract: A plant for the production of stacks of intermeshed blanks of paper, cellse or the like folded together in a zig-zag fashion, in which two supply rolls are associated with the plant. Material webs on the rolls correspond to a multiple of two, four, or six or a higher even-numbered multiple of the width of the individual blanks. Longitudinal cutting stations divide the material webs into partial webs. The partial webs are opposite each other and run toward each other in the longitudinal direction of the webs and are fed to a stack-producing unit from two opposing sides. The stack-producing units of partial webs adjacent to each other are arranged in displaced relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4674258
Abstract: A method and apparatus for inserting insert items into an enclosure, the ert items being selectively compiled by data coding. At the insertion station of the apparatus the insertion items are inserted without reduction in speed by top belts and bottom belts, past lateral insertion guides which are pivoted into the inside edges of the enclosure, directly into the enclosure which is aligned by means of movable cams operated in timed relation to the apparatus and which is opened by top and bottom vacuum devices. The filled enclosure is then conveyed by a segmental roller such that the insertion items retain their speed throughout the insertion operation and do not stop.

  • Patent number: 4674966
Abstract: An apparatus for defiberizing a web of compressed material into fluff and then forming the fluff into pads, and a method of use of the apparatus. The apparatus includes a hammermill or other machine for performing the actual defiberizing. The fluff is then drawn by vacuum which is contained within a shroud, into insert molds which form fluff pads in any shape and contour desired. The insert molds are assembled into a drum which turns continuously such that the vacuum is applied to only certain of the molds. As each mold leaves the shroud, any excess fluff which may overfill the mold is removed and recycled. The pad is then removed from the mold and passed downstream for further processing. The apparatus includes an arrangement for vacuuming out any remaining bits of fiber after the pad is removed. Also included is an apparatus for culling the pads at the discretion of the operator for start-up and shut-down as well as other purposes.
