  • Patent number: 10040654
Abstract: The system is the combination of an envelope feeder and a laser printer, with some additional control mechanisms. An envelope conveyor system is positioned adjacent to a media input slot on a laser printer and envelopes are fed into a pickup assembly positioned within the media input slot in a controlled manner. By controlling the conveyor speed, a stack of envelopes having a limited and known number of envelopes is accumulated within the pickup assembly such that the pickup roller in the assembly can feed envelopes into the printer at a rate equal to or greater than the speed at which the printer can apply an image to each envelope. A control circuit provides a feedback signal to the conveyor to control conveyor motor actuation. The result is a smaller, less expensive and simpler feed system for an envelope printer.

  • Patent number: 8939274
Abstract: An envelope feeder for a printer having two aligned conveyors moving at different speeds is disclosed. An upstream conveyor moves a backwards slanted procession of envelopes having aligned upper edges onto an inline downstream conveyor that accelerates the envelopes along a curved upper edge so that by the time any single envelope arrives at the printer ingestion or feed slot, the envelope is almost completely flat yet supported upwards slightly so that the pickup roller of the printer can easily and reliably ingest the envelope for processing. Due to the speed of the downstream conveyor, envelopes are continually and reliably presented to the printer to avoid printer stalls. The configuration reduces the amount of skill and operating labor required to establish a high-speed envelope feed source for high-speed printing.

  • Patent number: 8743421
Abstract: A system and method for matching spot colors in a PDL document with actual printed output is disclosed. A pre-press workflow application identifies spot colors in a PDL document and creates a table of potential substitute color tiles, each having color characteristics similar to the original spot color. These tiles are then printed in a “swatch page” of numerically assigned colors and reviewed by the user for potential selection over the original spot color values. A substitute color may then be selected from the swatch page and the pre-assigned numerical value for the selected color tile input into the workflow application. The PDL document is then altered to record the color change. The resulting printed document more closely matches the desired spot color and the process can be repeated for any print environment to allow for more consistent printing results and lower print job costs.

  • Publication number: 20080131167
Abstract: A platesetting system and apparatus for providing computer-to-plate electrophotographic printing to a conductive plate. The apparatus may include an electrophotographic printer adapted to include an electrically isolated media path for receiving a conductive plate. A conductive plate may include anodized and grained aluminum (AL) that does not include a light sensitive emulsion layer in a finished product. The plate may be adapted to include rounded corners. The plate may be adapted to include a protective leading edge. The plate may be fused using the absorbed light of a radiant heat source.

  • Patent number: 6151058
Abstract: A method for controlling the intensity of an imaging laser of an electrophotographic device in order to produce both positive and negative output. This is accomplished by using a software controlled digital circuit to increase or decrease the power supplied to the laser based on the user's desire to print positive or negative output. When the user desires to print positive output, the laser is set to full power. When the user selects negative mode printing, the power to the laser is digitally reduced by a factor unique to the electrophotographic characteristics of the printing device.

  • Patent number: 5815187
Abstract: A method that changes the image length and width produced by a laser printer to bring the printer's printed output into exact dimensional accuracy with the data input. This is accomplished by first a measuring sample page produced by the printer in response to a known input. Errors, if any, are measured and fed back into the printer through a host computer, and the graphics controller uses this information to change the printed graphics in the vertical and horizontal dimensions. In one embodiment of the invention, the graphic depiction is scaled as it is converted from the display list to the dot image in the printers RAM. In another embodiment, the resolution of the controller is changed to compensate for errors.

  • Patent number: 5812671
Abstract: In this system parties have network access to a network secure communications gateway which stores the current encryption/decryption algorithms and keys for parties registered with the network secure communications gateway. For party A to send an encrypted message to party B, party A encrypts the message using party A's secret key and encryption algorithm, copies of which are stored at the network gateway Party A sends the encrypted message, addressed to party B, initially to the gateway. The gateway decrypts the message, using party A's secret key and algorithm, and then encrypts the decrypted message using party B's secret key and algorithm. Finally, the gateway forwards the re-encrypted message to party B, where B decodes it using B's secret key and algorithm. The secure communications gateway periodically changes client keys (or algorithms and keys) to provide additional system security.
