Patent number: 8014270Abstract: A wireless receiver that sorts packets including a packet detector, multiple correlators, and multiple packet processors. Each correlator correlates a received signal according to packet type. Each packet processor processes the received signal according to packet type. A signal power detector may be provided to initially qualify the received signal as containing a packet, and the correlators determine whether a packet is present. The correlators may be configured for sequential or simultaneous correlation. For the simultaneous correlator configuration, a correlation monitor is provided to monitor correlation results to determine if the received signal contains a packet, and if so, to determine packet type. A low SNR packet detector may be provided which correlates the received signal to detect weak packet signals.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2008Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Xocyst Transfer AG L.L.C.Inventors: Steven D. Patent number: 7953104Abstract: A technique to allow enhanced stations and legacy stations to work with each other without the inefficiencies of signaling overhead in the prior art is disclosed. An enhanced station transmits an initial, short frame using a modulation compatible with legacy stations. The frame sets the duration for a frame exchange—consisting of a data frame, followed by acknowledgement frame—in which the data frame is transmitted using an enhanced modulation format. The duration specified in the transmitted initial frame covers the time interval of the subsequent frame exchange. All stations, including legacy stations, listen in on the frame exchange and refrain subsequently from transmitting spontaneously for the time interval covered by the duration. Alternatively, the frame exchange can comprise multiple data frames with corresponding acknowledgement frames. The enhanced station can also transmit, during the remaining frame exchange, one or more intermediate frames that indicate duration.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2005Date of Patent: May 31, 2011Assignee: Xocyst Transfer AG L.L.C.Inventors: Ronald A. Publication number: 20090185649Abstract: A decision directed flicker noise canceller for reducing flicker noise in a modulated input signal according to an embodiment of the present invention includes a decision circuit, a conversion circuit, first and second adders and a filter. The decision circuit provides signal decisions based on the input signal. The conversion circuit provides selected signal values based on the signal decisions. The first adder subtracts the selected signal values from signals based on the input signal to provide a flicker noise estimate. The filter receives and filters the flicker noise estimate and the second adder subtracts the filtered flicker noise estimate from the input signal and provides a corrected input signal. In a feedback configuration, the second adder is located in a feedback position before the decision circuit in the signal processing path. In a feed-forward configuration, the second adder is located in a feed-forward position after the decision circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 19, 2009Publication date: July 23, 2009Applicant: XOCYST TRANSFER AG L.L.C.Inventors: Mark A. Patent number: RE42721Abstract: A technique is disclosed that enables both an IEEE 802.11 transceiver and a Bluetooth transceiver to be employed in a single wireless telecommunication station (e.g., a device supporting a wireless telephone, personal digital assistant, etc.) without interfering on each other. In particular, the illustrative embodiment enables standard “off-the-shelf” IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth transceivers to work in a coordinated fashion in a single telecommunications terminal. In the illustrative embodiment, a Bluetooth transceiver gains access to a shared-communications channel from an IEEE 802.11 transceiver by requesting access, even if the access is not immediate. The technique disclosed is also applicable to communications protocols other than IEEE 802.11 and Bluetooth.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 2008Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Xocyst Transfer AG L.L.C.Inventor: Timothy Gordon Godfrey

Patent number: RE42722Abstract: An interface between radios supporting different air interfaces is disclosed that avoids some of the costs and disadvantages associated with inter-radio interfaces in the prior art. The present invention enables the needed coordination across multiple wireless protocols, such as 802.11 and Bluetooth, by providing a communication link spanning different integrated circuits when each radio is on a separate integrated circuit. This low cost, low complexity link can be added to standard integrated circuits produced by individual companies without adding appreciably to the overall cost of the integrated circuits.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2010Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Xocyst Transfer AG L.L.C.Inventor: Timothy Gordon Godfrey
