Abstract: A tracking unit comprising: positioning means for determining a location of the tracking unit; a transceiver unit for communicating at least position data of the tracking unit; a power supplying circuitry for supplying power to the tracking unit; the tracking unit being configured to switch from a first power saving state to an active state after a first predetermined period; send a request to a network address of a positioning application for checking if a location update request has been given to the tracking unit; in response to the location update request being given, determine the location of the tracking unit and send the position data of the tracking unit to the network address; and in response to the location update request not being given or the position data of the tracking unit being sent to the network address, switch back to the first power saving state.
