Patent number: 7387498Abstract: A system is provided for attenuating noise in at least two positive displacement compressors proximately located from each other for use with at least one heating or cooling system. A lead compressor and a lag compressor have a selectably controllable rotational speed and a selectably controllable phase of operation. A controller selectably controls the rotational speed and the phase of operation of each of the compressors. The controller controls the rotational speed of the compressors at a predetermined rotational speed that is substantially the same for each of the compressors. The controller controls the phase of operation of the compressors by shifting the phase of operation of the lag compressor so that an outlet pressure pulse operatively produced by the lag compressor is substantially evenly spaced between successive outlet pressure pulses operatively produced by the reference compressor.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2003Date of Patent: June 17, 2008Assignee: York International CorporationInventors: Harold Robert Schnetzka, E. Patent number: 7290600Abstract: A system for defrosting an air-to-air heat pump system is disclosed. A bypass loop transfers refrigerant at a higher temperature and pressure than is normally cycled through the outdoor unit to an outdoor coil to defrost ice on the outdoor coil. The bypass loop includes a valve movable between closed and open positions. A sensor monitors a preselected condition indicative of outdoor coil performance. A controller communicates with the valve and the sensor. Once the controller determines that a preselected set point of a preselected condition indicative of deteriorating performance has been reached, the controller sends a signal to open the valve, allowing warm refrigerant to bypass expansion valves and flow to the outdoor unit to defrost the outdoor unit. Once defrosting is accomplished, the valve can be moved to a closed position to resume normal operation of the heat pump unit.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2005Date of Patent: November 6, 2007Assignee: York International CorporationInventor: Patrick Gordon Gavula
