  • Patent number: 7022142
Abstract: A prosthetic acetabular component for a hip joint that is inserted into a bone cavity of the natural acetabulum. The acetabular component consists of an articulating component and a constraining component. The articulating component has a hemispherical or dome shape that defines a hemispherical cavity for receiving a femoral ball of a femoral hip stem. The constraining component has a body that connects to the articulating component to capture the femoral ball within the cavity of the articulating component. A locking mechanism connects the constraining component to the articulating component.

  • Patent number: 6979299
Abstract: A measuring guide for use in various surgical procedures. The measuring guide is a noninvasive tool that may be repeatedly applied to a desired bone member to make appropriate measurements. The measuring guide allows for easy adjustment of the distance between a stop plate designed to engage an end of a given bone member and a marking guide used to facilitate marking of the bone. Additionally, the stop plate may be pivotably mounted to facilitate ease and accuracy of measurement.

  • Patent number: 6974482
Abstract: Implantable prostheses fully or partially formed of polymer having a textured or porous outer surface. The surface permits and encourages osteogenesis into the prosthesis and enables it to become firmly and permanently anchored into surrounding bone. The prostheses include a femoral hip stem formed of a metallic core and a polymeric proximal body with a textured or porous surface formed from a laser texturing, machining, or grit blasting.

  • Patent number: 6960214
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for repairing defects in articular cartilage and, more particularly, to a new method for performing automated microfracture on subchondral bone to repair articular cartilage. The microfractured holes on the surface of the subchondral bone plate are formed with an automated process using a pneumatically driven orthopedic microfracture instrument. The instrument moves a fracture pin through the end of a guide tube until a sharp end of the fracture pin punctures or penetrates the subchondral bone plate and creates a microfracture or hole in the bone.

  • Patent number: 6875237
Abstract: A method and apparatus for performing minimally invasive hip surgery for implanting a prosthetic acetabular component into a natural acetabulum. The method and apparatus include a driving instrument and driving guide for aligning and driving bone screws and screw-hole plugs. The instrument includes a working section and a driving section connected together with a joint connector. The joint connector enables the working and driving sections to move to various angles relative to each other.
