Abstract: A process for preparation of stable, liquid solutions of complexes of trace elements and amino acid complexes of L-lysine, glycine, leucine, and serine. The resulting complexes are used to supplement domestic animals nutritionally. Since the solutions are stable, they can be used as a top drench or in drinking water.

Abstract: A method and composition which is rumen stable but intestine soluble, and therefore useful in dietary supplementation of ruminant animals with bioavailable but rumen stable forms of essential amino acids.
Abstract: The method and composition involves preparing a high yield of a metal amino acid complex visible as a source of highly bioavailable transition metal ions, highly bioavailable essential amino acid for a livestock animal is disclosed. The method involves preparing the metal amino acid complex from a protein starting material resulting product in high yield. The protein starting material is hydrolyzed to provide an amino acid hydrolyzate and thereafter a metal oxide corresponding to the desired metal for the metal amino complex is added to the amino acid hydrolyzate to react to form a high yield metal amino acid complex which is thereafter used to form a dose for supplementation of diet to assure adequate trace minerals and adequate essential amino acids in the diet of a livestock animal.

Abstract: Novel salts are prepared wherein the cation of the salt is a divalent or trivalent cation which is an essential trace element comprising a 1:1 ratio of a complex ion formed between a trace mineral and methionine and any suitable anion, either inorganic or organic. The novel salts have the generic formula: ##STR1## Wherein R.sub.1 is methyl or ethyl, R.sub.2 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R.sub.3 is hydrogen or methyl, M is a covalent or trivalent trace mineral cation, X is an anion and w is an integer to balance the anionic charge of X. These novel compounds are useful nutritional supplements, both for animals and humans, in that they provide a readily available source of a highly water soluble methionine which is an essential amino acid.
Abstract: Method of enhancing the water solubility of dry zinc methionine complex salts by reacting in water soluble zinc salt with mentionine in the presence of ferric ion with the amount being between about 15 mole percent and 30 mole percent of the amount of zinc present.

Abstract: Substantially pure 1:1 L-form transition metal methionine complex salts are formed. The preferred transition metals are zinc, chromium, manganese and iron. Salts are formed by reaction with pure L-form methionine. As a result, dosages for supplementation can by way of example be one-half the amount used in raecemic mixtures of salts.
Abstract: A number of metal lysine hydrochloride complexes are produced according to described preparation methods. The complexes are of the formula[Lys].sub.m-n (M) .sub.y X.sub.zwherein: [Lys] is the amino acid lysine; M is a metal ion of either iron, copper, zinc, manganese, or cobalt; m is the valency of the selected metal ion; n is a positive integer less than m; y and z are integers selected to electrostatically balance the cationic and anionic charges of the metal lysine complex; and X is an anion selected from the group including hydroxides, halides, sulfates, phosphates, carbonates, and acetates. The metal lysine hydrochloride complexes are prepared by dissolving in water an oxide or salt of the metal. To the aqueous solution, a quantity of lysine monohydrochloride in a molar ratio to the metal ion of between 0.5 and 4.0 is added and the solution is heated to between 20.degree. C. and 100.degree. C.
Abstract: Complex salts of copper useful for nutritional supplementation to provide copper in a form which effectively increases the bioavailability of copper, assuring adequate dietary requirement for health and growth, with the complexes comprising copper ions complexed with certain alpha hydroxy organic acids.
Abstract: In solid form, copper complex salts of the formula: ##STR1## wherein "n" is from 1 to 5, and "Z" is an anion and "y" is the number required to electrostatically balance the set.

Abstract: A method of making 1:1 complex salts of alpha amino acids and a metal ion which is either zinc or manganese, the method comprising reacting a water soluble zinc salt or manganese salt with an alpha amino acid in the presence of catalytically effective amount of ferric ion which aids in solubilizing the metal salt while simultaneously enhancing the formation of 1:1 complexes between the selected zinc or manganese salt and the desired alpha amino acid, particularly methionine.
Abstract: Complex salts of cobalt useful for nutritional supplementation to provide cobalt in a form which effectively increases the bioavailability of cobalt, assuring adequate dietary requirement for growth and production of vitamin B.sub.12 by microorganisms present in the gut.
