  • Patent number: 11802545
Abstract: A method for detecting and reducing edgewise vibrations in a rotor blade of a wind turbine includes, for a given wind speed, determining a frequency or frequency band at which edgewise vibrations are producible in the rotor blade. The method determines an electrical characteristic of the pitch actuator that correlates to an increased torque required to hold a pitch angle of the rotor blade constant at the frequency or frequency band. During an operational power-production mode of the wind turbine, the electrical characteristic of the pitch actuator is monitored. Upon the electrical characteristic reaching a predefined limit value indicative of edgewise vibrations in the rotor blade, corrective action is initiated by the wind turbine controller to reduce or prevent the edgewise vibrations.

Abstract: Various methods and systems are provided for bicuspid valve detection with ultrasound imaging. In one embodiment, a method comprises acquiring ultrasound video of a heart over at least one cardiac cycle, identifying frames in the ultrasound video corresponding to at least one cardiac phase, and classifying a cardiac structure in the identified frames as a bicuspid valve or a tricuspid valve. A generative model such as a variational autoencoder trained on ultrasound image frames at the at least one cardiac phase may be used to classify the cardiac structure. In this way, relatively rare occurrences of bicuspid aortic valves may be automatically detected during regular cardiac ultrasound screenings.

  • Patent number: 11796982
Abstract: A system and process for predicting the failure of a machine begins with the step of loading a slope signature library into the control system, in which the slope signature library correlates time-to-failure based on rates of change of one or more measured conditions. The process includes the steps of activating the machine, determining baseline measurements, and detecting an out-of-spec measurement. Once an out-of-spec measurement is made, the process includes the determination of the rate of change for the out-of-spec measurement. A slope signature is calculated based on the rate of change for the measured condition, which is compared against the slope signature library to determine a predicted time-to-failure based on the calculated slope signature, and outputting the predicted time-to-failure. The process can be used to modify the operation of the machine to extend the predicted time-to-failure.
