  • Patent number: 4061443
Abstract: A wobble plate compressor in which the output of the compressor is modulated in response to refrigeration requirements by varying the compressor piston displacement to match the cooling requirement. An expansible chamber power unit including a sleeve surrounds the drive shaft in sealing relation therewith for axial movement with said sleeve including a wobble plate connected thereto for pivotal movement relative to the shaft. The wobble plate angle is varied during the axial movement of the sleeve by means of a drive lug on the drive shaft having a cam track therein connected in rotary driving relation to cam follower means on the wobble plate. The cam track opposite ends define respectively, maximum and minimum stroke lengths for each of the pistons whereby under controlled pressure conditions the force system results in the pistons tending to go to their full stroke positions.

  • Patent number: 4050857
Abstract: A gate valve is threadedly attached to an influent port of a motorized pump of a vehicular fire engine at all times. Thus it is not necessary to stop the pump, remove a cap and connect a water supply hose to the influent port. Instead the supply hose is connected to the gate valve, the valve is purged of air, and then opened to connect the new source without air hammer, or flow interruption. A pressure relief valve on the suction side of the gate, relieves pump pressure whether the gate is open or closed.

  • Patent number: 4047845
Abstract: The output from the pump chamber of a higher volume piston pump is divided between a return bypass and the pump chamber of a smaller volume piston pump; the piston of the high volume piston pump is periodically raised by a cam to draw fluid into the pump chamber; when this piston is released, a spring forces fluid from the high volume pump chamber; the pump chamber of the small volume pump is connected with the cam such that the volume of the low volume pump chamber decreases, thereby pumping out the fluid in that chamber, when the large volume pump chamber is taking in fluid, and vice versa; appropriate valves ensure that flow is only in the desired direction; adjustment and calibration means are provided for the low volume pump.

  • Patent number: 4047846
Abstract: The present invention discloses a power-steering pump which may reduce in a very stable manner the flow rate of the hydraulic liquid under pressure to be delivered to a power steering system with increase of the rotational speed of an engine beyond an idling speed and which may easily change the above rate reduction or attenuation characteristic depending upon the types of the automotive vehicles and power steering systems thereof. A flow-control valve which is disposed in parallel with the axis of a pump mechanism is provided with a variable-area orifice which determines the flow rate attenuation characteristic and which is defined by an orifice groove cut through a flange of a partition wall member and an enlarged-diameter portion at the free end of a control rod extended through the partition wall member from the front end of a control spool of the flow-control valve.

  • Patent number: 4046490
Abstract: A method and apparatus for protecting a dynamic compressor from surge. The method includes a first step for providing a simultaneous control of a smaller relief means and a main control member of a dynamic compressor or the driver thereof for changing the performance of the compressor. This combined action provides for the protection from surge and at the same time insures the invariability of the main control parameters of pressure, mass flow rate to the user, or the speed of rotation. The second step provides for controlling a larger relief means and provides for antisurge protection in those cases when the first step is not sufficient to protect the compressor from surge. Apparatus is also provided for automatically implementing the method.

  • Patent number: 4035104
Abstract: A self-priming centrifugal pump including a priming piston disposed in a priming chamber which communicates with the pumping chamber to receive fluid therefrom. During priming, the priming piston is driven by the impeller shaft through an eccentric to discharge such fluid from the priming chamber. During normal operation of the pump, that is after the pump has been successfully primed, the priming piston is retained out of driven relationship with the eccentric by fluid supplied from the pumping chamber, thereby preventing the priming piston from taking power from the pump during such normal operation.

  • Patent number: 4032260
Abstract: A hydraulic control device for protecting a drive from excess loading conditions includes at least one pump having adjustable members for controlling the quantity of fluid transported by the pump. A pressure-responsive control slide is mounted for movement relative to a housing and is moved towards respective positions, each of which corresponds to a normally loaded condition of the drive by a control pump which generates a pressure force which is indicative of the rpm of the drive at normally loaded conditions. The device further includes an arrangement for securing the control slide when the drive is subjected to loads in excess of the respective normally loaded conditions so that a valve member is permitted to move in response to excess loads relative to the control slide after the latter has been secured in said respective positions by the securing arrangement between switching positions in which the adjustable members are operative to adjust the quantity of fluid being transported by the pump.

  • Patent number: 4028011
Abstract: A control system for preventing over-pumping of wells using submersible pumps. When the pump lowers the level of the water in the well, the control automatically diverts some or all of the water pumped back into the well to assure that sufficient water is available in the well for pumping. In this way, pump cavitation is eliminated and water is pumped from the well either at a rate equal to the capacity of the pump or, if the flow of water into the well is less than the capacity of the pump, at a rate equal to the flow of water into the well.

  • Patent number: RE29283
Abstract: An axially shiftable slide valve member in a rotary, helical screw compressor carries a port which senses the pressure of the working fluid in the trapped volume just before uncovering of the closed thread to the discharge port and compares that pressure with the line pressure at the discharge port and shifts the slide valve member to balance the pressures and prevent overcompression or undercompression of the compressor. The screw compressor may be provided with two identical but oppositely oriented slide valve members on opposite sides of the intermeshed helical screws with one slide valve member controlling the capacity of the compressor and the other balancing the closed thread pressure at discharge with discharge line pressure. Compressor rotation may be reversed to eliminate the need for a reversing valve where the compressor operates in heat pump or reverse flow defrost refrigeration applications, with the two slide valves trading functions.

  • Patent number: RE29456
Abstract: The pressure acting on a pressure loaded cheek plate in a pump is selectively vented by a servo valve actuated by the buildup of pressure in the pump outlet caused by normal parasitic losses in a downstream hydraulic flow circuit. Since it may be desirable to actuate the servo valve by the pressure drop across an orifice in the outlet line or by a suitable orifice in the pump return to pump, both embodiments are disclosed as exemplary means for achieving the premises of this design.
