Abstract: A gas-over-oil actuator system for use with a valve in a natural gas pipeline. The system includes a gas-over-oil actuator and a wireless position monitor operatively coupled to the gas-over-oil actuator. The wireless position monitor includes an integral opened spool valve and is adapted to be communicatively coupled to a remote workstation via a wireless network and a wireless gateway. At least one switching relay is operatively coupled to the gas-over-oil actuator and the wireless position monitor. Upon receiving a wireless command from the remote workstation, the wireless position monitor drives a pressure signal from the opened center spool valve to the at least one switching relay to manage high pressure supply to the gas-over-oil actuator and move the valve to a desired position.

  • Patent number: 9958894
Abstract: A method includes separating a collection of devices configured for participation in a demand response (DR) event into an On-to-Off DR device set (On-to-Off set) and an Off-to-On DR device set (Off-to-On set). The method includes forming latency groups from devices of the Off-to-On set and the On-to-Off set based on a lower curtailment margin and an upper curtailment margin defined for a macro DR event. The method includes portioning one or more transition groups from the devices of the Off-to-On set and the On-to-Off set. The portioning is based on device curtailment capacities of the devices of the Off-to-On set and the On-to-Off set, a dynamic lower curtailment margin, and a dynamic upper curtailment margin. The method includes creating transition group pairs from the transition groups and executing a micro DR event such that an energy curtailment remains within the curtailment band.

  • Patent number: 9904344
Abstract: In an HPC system, a Resource Manager deliberately introduces heterogeneities to the execution speeds of some, but not all, of the nodes allocated to an application during the application's execution. These heterogeneities may cause changes to the amount of time spent waiting on coordination points: computation intensive applications will be most affected by these changes, IO bound applications less so. By monitoring wait time reports received from a Communications library, the Manager can discriminate between these two types of applications and suitable power states can be applied to the nodes allocated to the application. If the application is IO bound then nodes can be switched to a lower-power state to save energy. This can be applied at any point during application execution so that the hardware configuration can be adjusted to keep optimal efficiency as the application passes through phases with different energy use and performance characteristics.

  • Patent number: 9898429
Abstract: Control circuitry controls the operations of a central processing unit, CPU, which is associated with a nominal clock frequency. The CPU is further coupled to an I/O range and configured to deliver input to an application. The control circuitry controls the CPU to poll the I/O range for input to the application. The control circuitry also monitors whether or not each poll results in input to the application and adjusts a clock frequency at which the CPU operates to a clock frequency lower than the nominal clock frequency if a pre-defined number of polls resulting in no input is detected. Methods and a central computer server of an automated exchange system are also provided.

  • Patent number: 9880600
Abstract: An estimating apparatus includes an acquiring unit, a history recording unit, and a determining unit. The acquiring unit acquires power amounts for respective measurement times from a measuring apparatus that measures power for each branch line, as a plurality of used power amounts. The history recording unit records the plurality of used power amounts in association with dates and times. The determining unit variably sets a comparison value for comparing magnitudes of the plurality of used power amounts recorded in the history recording unit, obtains a minimum value of the comparison value in a range satisfying a condition that an amount of time for which at least some of the plurality of used power amounts are continuously equal to or below the comparison value exceeds a prescribed sustained time, and estimates the minimum value to be a peak value of stand-by power of the branch line.

  • Patent number: 9876892
Abstract: Methods and systems for powering-off a wireless communication device from a linked device are provided. A device can transmit a wireless communication signal to a linked device to instruct the linked device to power-off. In this manner, the user need only turn off one device manually which results in all linked devices being powered off. This process can be initiated by a user through a device directly linked with the device to be powered-off or through a device that is indirectly connected, through one or more wireless communication networks, with the device to be powered-off. This process can also be automatically initiated by a device when a set of predetermined conditions exist. Once instructed to do so, a device can initiate a predetermined power-off process which can involve terminating any ongoing functions and turning off various subsystems. In accordance with the present invention, a user can initiate a power-off of all the devices on a wireless communication network through a single device.

  • Patent number: 9858084
Abstract: A mechanism of booting up a system directly from a storage device and a means of initializing an embedded system prior to activating a CPU is presented. The said system is comprised of one or more CPUs, a reset controller, a storage device controller, one or more direct memory access controllers, a RAM and its controller, a ROM and its controller, a debug interface and a power-on reset (POR) sequencer. The POR sequencer controls the overall boot process of the embedded system. Said sequencer uses descriptors (POR Sequencer descriptors) which are used to update the configuration registers of the system and to enable CPU-independent data transfers with the use of DMA controllers. Using a minimal amount of non-volatile memory for booting up a system brings down costs associated with increased silicon real estate area and power consumption. Capability of pre-initializing the system even before a CPU is brought out of reset provides flexibility and system robustness.
