  • Patent number: 7336632
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for reporting QoS information associated with a reverse link communication service effectuated in a radio communication system, such as a CDMA2000 cellular communication system. The mobile station includes a service quality level selector that selects a selected service quality level, such as a communication rate, at which the communication service is to be effectuated. The mobile station further selectably includes a message generator that generates a service quality indication message. A detector detects the scheduling architecture of a network part of the communication system with which the mobile station communicates. And, information contained in the message generated by the message generator is dependent, in part, upon the scheduling architecture.

  • Patent number: 7327703
Abstract: There is provided a method for setting and clearing a concurrent service between a mobile switching center (MSC) and a base station, to provide a new service while providing an existing service. The base station forms a signaling link for a first service between the base station and the MSC. Upon receipt of a service request signal for a second service from a packet data service network (PDSN) while providing the first service, the base station sends a resource assignment request for the second service to the MSC through the formed signaling link. The MSC then sends a resource assignment approval signal to the base station through the formed signaling link.

  • Patent number: 7327682
Abstract: Method and devices are provided for allocating network resources in a flexible manner. In some implementations, a customer's unused resources for a particular type of service are assigned to another type of service. In other implementations, a first customer's unused resources are assigned to a second customer, e.g., in exchange for a relatively lower service charge to the first customer. The unused bandwidth may be assigned on a hierarchical or a non-hierarchical basis. In preferred embodiments, resources are allocated using a token bucket methodology. Preferably, high-priority resources are not compromised by the allocation scheme. The discipline or manner in which resources or bandwidth are shared may be specified in a static fashion or information regarding the state of congestion in the network maybe used to generate a dynamic (time varying) specification.

  • Patent number: 7324566
Abstract: Briefly, in accordance with one embodiment of the invention, a method of interleaving a data stream may occur as follows. A sequence of groupings of bits or binary digital signals from a data stream, the groupings have a predetermined size, are written from a data bus into a memory. Selective groupings stored in the memory are applied to a first multiplexer (MUX). Groupings applied to the first MUX are then applied to a second MUX. At least one grouping, applied to a third MUX, is applied to the second MUX between applying groupings from the first MUX to the second MUX. Briefly, in accordance with another embodiment of the invention, an integrated circuit includes: a memory, a plurality of multiplexers, and a state machine. The memory, multiplexers and state machine are coupled so that selected groupings of bits from the received bit stream are capable of being extracted to produce another bit stream different from the received bit stream.

  • Patent number: 7324525
Abstract: A method for coalescing acknowledge packets within a server is disclosed. A Read Request queue having multiple queue pair entries is provided. Each of the queue pair entries includes a packet sequence number (PSN) field and an indicator field. In response to a receipt of a Write Request packet, an indicator field of a queue pair entry is set to indicate that an Ack packet has been queued within the queue pair entry, and a PSN of the Write Request packet is written into a PSN field of the queue pair entry. In addition, a Queue Write Pointer is maintained to point to the queue pair entry. In response to a receipt of a Read Request packet, the indicator field of the queue pair entry is set to indicate that a Read Request packet has been queued within the queue pair entry, and a PSN of the Read Request packet is written into the PSN field of the queue pair entry. Also, the Queue Write Pointer is advanced to point to a queue pair entry that is subsequent to the queue pair entry.

  • Patent number: 7324499
Abstract: A method and system for call monitoring in a wireless network by querying various network components for information about a call path through the wireless network. The network components in the wireless network may include foreign agent control nodes, home agent control nodes, packet data serving nodes, home agents, and/or authentication, authorization, and accounting servers. These network components may be queried to determine the foreign agent and the home agent to which a call is assigned. The foreign agent and the home agent may also define information about a call on the wireless network, i.e., the state of the call. Advantageously, the information provided by the foreign agent and the home agent may allow for monitoring a call path through the wireless network.

  • Patent number: 7317716
Abstract: A system and method can enable a user of a communications network, such as a Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN), wireless and/or voice over IP network to participate in Presence Availability Management (PAM) and Instant Messaging (IM) activities of a PAM/IM network. In response to phone network triggers, a phone network Service Control Point (SCP) can generate requests to a web server. The web server can translate the requests to presence information that can be forwarded to presence user agents for participants of the PAM/IM network. The presence user agents can present the user's presence information to participants having the user on their “buddy list”. In turn, the presence user agent for the user can forward the presence information for participants on the user's “buddy list” to a media server that can communicate the information to the user through Automatic Speech Recognition, Text to Speech and/or Dual Tone MultiFrequency technology.

  • Patent number: 7304973
Abstract: A system and method are provided for defining a Burst ACK interface in an IEEE 802.11 network. The method comprising: using Burst ACK primitives to negotiate between peer station management entities (SMEs); establishing an interface between peer MAC entities associated with the SMEs; and, in response to negotiating with the Burst ACK primitives, using a Burst ACK protocol to communicate information between peer Quality of Service (QoS) stations (QSTAs) associated with the SMEs. Using a Burst ACK protocol to communicate information between peer QSTAs includes communicating between the peer MAC entities. In some aspects, establishing an interface between peer MAC entities includes each MAC entity: transceiving Burst ACK primitives with an associated SME; converting between Burst ACK primitives and physical layer communication MAC frames; and, transceiving communication physical layer MAC frames with a peer MAC entity, via the physical layer communication MAC frames.

  • Patent number: 7305008
Abstract: A Local Area Network based on a parallel bus architecture is disclosed. The LAN provides a means of utilizing relatively low cost CMOS circuitry to obtain performance superior to LAN's utilizing more exotic high speed technology. The disclosed LAN is based on a parallel bus having n×8 data lines, ± power lines, and a clock line. The bandwidth of the LAN is the product of the number of data lines times the clock speed. Bandwidth is therefore scalable by increasing either the clock speed, the number of data lines, or both. Access to the bus is provided via ports which include transceivers, a clock receiver, and a configurable hardware interface. Each port is assigned an address based on a data line and a clock cycle. The invention features a network that becomes more efficient as usage increases, ports that can accept any medium, and an architecture that facilitates implementation of a true “STAR” LAN configuration which interfaces between two or more serial communications links.

  • Patent number: 7301939
Abstract: An Internet-capable radio has a communication port for connection to a modem, a connection function for connecting to the Internet upon user initiation while connected to the modem, sound circuitry for rendering audio data packets received over the Internet as analog audio output, and for delivering the audio output to one or more speaker ports, two or more stored hyperlinks addressing Internet broadcast servers; and a user input adapted to enable a user to select among the stored hyperlinks. Selection of one of the stored hyperlinks by the user input invokes the hyperlink and connects the radio to the server addressed by the hyperlink, initiating thereby an audio data stream as data packets from the broadcast server to the radio, and wherein the radio renders the data stream as analog audio data delivered to the one or more speaker ports. The user input in preferred embodiments has a plurality of pushbuttons associated with hyperlinks, which can be asserted by activating a pushbutton.
