  • Patent number: 5086806
Abstract: An automatic fluid-flow control system is provided for controlling the quantity of fluid allowed to flow uninterrupted through a conduit. It is particularly useful in controlling potentially damaging floods caused by breakage in a branch plumbing line used to supply water to beverage dispensing appliances, ice-making machines and similar devices which repeatedly consume limited quantities of water in relatively short flow cycles. The fluid-flow control system includes a flow meter which emits a signal containing information about the flow of fluid and also indicating when fluid is flowing and when it is not. The preferred metering device emits pulses at a rate proportional to the flow rate. A counter accumulates a pulse count during each period of fluid flow. A separate pulse sensing network senses the beginning and end of each period of fluid flow and disables and initializes the counter whenever fluid is not flowing.

  • Patent number: 5082016
Abstract: A first port is provided in a fuel tank of an automobile for introducing an open air therefrom when the liquid surface of fuel lowers in the fuel tank. There is provided a float in the fuel tank which is detached from a second port when the liquid surface is under a predetermined level in the fuel tank but closes the second port when the liquid surface exceeds the predetermined level for preventing the fuel from overflowing the first port. There are provided a diaphragm and a rod to be operated by the diaphragm inside the float for preventing the float being kept adhered to the second port by pushing back the diaphragm by the rod.

  • Patent number: 5080129
Abstract: The present invention provides a pilot operated pressure reducing valve in which the pilot liquid (generally the pilot fluid) is taken from the low pressure side, wherein two pilot liguid connections (or conduits) from the low pressure side to the pilot valve are provided which the separate from each other. The one connection takes the pilot liquid (or fluid) from the control area of the control spool while the other connection takes the pilot liquid (or fluid) from outside the control range (or area) of the control spool. A check valve is provided to seperate said two connections and closes to the low pressure side. Thus, even for large volume flows and large pressure differentials, between the high pressure side and the low pressure side, good control- and stability characteristics are obtained.

  • Patent number: 5080120
Abstract: A valve with an O-ring, a disk seal, and a replaceable valve seat. A groove n the bottom of the valve seat flange forms an inner and outer drip ledge with the inner and outer periphery of the flange. If leakage occurs at the valve seat O-ring, fluid droplets will form on the outer drip ledge. If leakage occurs at the disk seal, fluid droplets will form on the inner drip ledge. A visual inspection of these drip ledges through an access port, or by a borescope placed in an inspection port, can discriminate between a leak which originates in the O-ring and a leak which originates in the disk seal.

  • Patent number: 5074324
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing drag and noise associated with fluid w within a conduit is provided. The conduit has flexible walls that are shaped to form stationary waves having peaks and troughs and are repeated in the axial direction of the conduit. The stationary waves are moved along the axial direction of the conduit whereby a vortex is trapped in the fluid flow at each of the troughs. Each of the vortices forms part of an isolating layer between the conduit wall and the main stream of the fluid flow thereby reducing drag. Furthermore, the vortices push the dominant noise producing region toward the center of the fluid flow where sound coupling efficiency is lower.

  • Patent number: 5072749
Abstract: A differential pressure regulator is provided having a single piece pressure balanced flow spindle. The differential pressure regulator also includes a spring biased diaphragm assembly which acts against the pressure balanced flow spindle which is spring biased to the closed position. The upper surface of the diaphragm assembly is exposed to the signal pressure, and the lower surface of the diaphragm assembly is exposed to the outlet pressure. An adjustable spring is situated above the upper diaphragm to provide an additional or additive downward force on the upper diaphragm necessitating a greater force on the outlet side to close the valve. A vent is provided through the central bolt and spacer rings. The upper end of the flow spindle blocks the vent in the central bolt so long as the signal pressure plus the spring pressure is greater than or equal the outlet pressure.
