    Abstract: A method of verifying the authenticity of a packaged product involves providing a package that includes a product, a packaging material covering at least one surface of the product, and at least two fluorescent materials, which (a) each can be disposed in or on the packaging material, (b) each can be disposed in or on at least one surface of the product, or (c) can be separated so that at least one of them is disposed in or on the packaging material and at least one of them is disposed in or on at least one surface of the product. The package is exposed to excitation radiation including one or more wavelengths in the range of from about 250 to about 400 nm, the luminescent radiation emitted by said fluorescent materials is spectroscopically detected in the wavelength range of about 300 to about 475 nm, and an intensity versus wavelength plot of the emitted radiation over at least a portion of the range of wavelengths detected is compiled.

    Abstract: Fluorescent dichroic fibers randomly incorporated within a media provide an improved method for authentication and counterfeiting protection. The dichroism is provided by an alignment of fluorescent molecules along the length of the fibers. The fluorescent fibers provide an authentication mechanism of varying levels of capability. The authentication signature depends on four parameters, the x,y position, the dichroism and the local environment. The availability of so many non-deterministic variables makes production of counterfeit articles (e.g., currency, credit cards, etc.

    Abstract: A solid state camera element having photodiode provided on a matrix and shielding film formed in the layer above the circumference of photodiode, wherein fluorescence film is provided in the layer above any one of photodiodes or in the layer above photodiode, extending from the top surface to the lower layer of shielding film. Interference filter of one or multiple layers is provided in the layer above fluorescence film for transmitting an absorption wavelength and reflecting a luminescence wavelength of the fluorescence film. Also, N well of photodiode is formed deep in the substrate and the peak wavelength of sensitivity is shifted to a longer wavelength side from the normal setting peak value of 550 nm. Therefore, the present invention can enhance the blue sensitivity of the solid state camera element by using fluorescent pigment without causing cross talk with a neighboring photodiode.

    Abstract: A gamma camera system includes two or more radiation detector heads and which are mounted opposite each other to a gantry for rotation about a subject. A transmission radiation source assembly is mounted to the front face of at least one of the detectors and can be moved across the face of the detector. The source assembly includes a radiation attenuating housing, a leaded bronze source holder, and a radionuclide source. The radionuclide source is retained in a longitudinal groove disposed in the source holder. The source holder may be rotated into open, closed, and access positions. The transmission radiation emitted by the source assembly is directed across the examination region, attenuated by the subject, and detected by the opposed detector. The gamma camera system also includes a filter which selectively attenuates the transmission radiation to obtain a desired attenuation profile which prevents saturation of the opposed detector.
