  • Patent number: 8867369
Abstract: An input/output connection device includes a generating section which generates an inspection packet that has a tag that uniquely identifies the packet, a transmitting section which transmits the inspection packet to the input/output device, a receiving section which receives a packet, a first determining section which determines, on the basis of a tag of the packet received by the receiving section, whether or not the received packet is a packet transmitted in response to the inspection packet transmitted by the transmitting section, and a second determining section which analyzes the received packet and determines whether or not the input/output device is normal when the first determining section determines that the received packet is the packet transmitted in response to the inspection packet.

  • Patent number: 8868749
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide for optimizing workload placement in a networked computing environment (e.g., a cloud computing environment). Specifically, a workload placement technique is applied to determine an optimal platform for handling an identified workload. The workload placement technique comprises one or more of the following: a shadow placement technique; a simultaneous placement technique; and/or a single platform placement technique. Once an optimal platform is identified, a workload timing method may be applied to determine when the workload should be placed thereon. The workload timing method can comprise one or more of the following: a time-based method whereby the workload is placed on the optimal platform at a predetermined time or time interval; and/or an event-based method whereby the workload is placed on the optimal platform based on an occurrence of one or more events external to the workload itself.

  • Patent number: 8854977
Abstract: A relay node functions as a master node or a slave node and includes a status monitoring means, an update requesting means, a master transferring means, and a master accepting means. The status monitoring means monitors a status of a connection related to communication data. The update requesting means transmits a first update request to a first node upon the relay node receiving first communication data while the first node functioning as the master node. The master transferring means determines whether to transfer authority of the master node to a second node in accordance with a status of a first connection upon the relay node receiving a second update request from the second node. The master transferring means transmits a first master transfer notification to the second node. The master accepting means prepares to become the master node upon the relay node receiving a second master transfer notification.

  • Patent number: 8773986
Abstract: A system and method for providing upstream adaptive modulation. Burst parameters associated with a range of data interval usage codes (IUCs) are defined. Each of the data IUCs has a different modulation order and forward error correction (FEC). The SNR and codeword error rate for each satellite modem in the network are monitored. The data IUCs are dynamically assigned to different satellite modems within an upstream channel based on SNR and/or codeword error rate to enable each of the satellite modems in the upstream channel to achieve maximum bandwidth efficiency during upstream data transmissions. Bandwidth requests are received from the satellite modems and granted. The grant includes the assigned data IUC. The data bursts received in the upstream channel are each processed using the parameters from the assigned IUC for each of the satellite modems sending data in the upstream channel.

  • Patent number: 8605586
Abstract: Systems and methods of balancing traffic load in a wireless communication network include calculating a load metric for each of a plurality of users, wherein each of the plurality of users, in operation, are in communication with a first base station using an overloaded carrier associated with the first base station. Such load metric for each user may include a plurality of metric factors related at least to an associated communication link. Based on the calculated load metric, a transfer-deserving user from the plurality of users may be determined. The transfer-deserving user may be associated with a highest value of an associated calculated load metric. For load balancing at the first base station, the associated communication link of the transfer-deserving user may be transferred from the overloaded carrier to a target carrier, wherein the target carrier may be associated with either the first base station or a second base station.

  • Patent number: 8588157
Abstract: The present invention relates to an improved procedure for synchronization of re-configuration of RRC procedures between the radio base station and the UE. This is achieved by associating a new configuration to be used by a UE with an additional UE identity. The UE is normally identified by a first UE identity, but is informed in a re-configuration message that the UE also has the additional UE identity. The UE is identified by the additional UE identity when the new configuration is to be activated. Hence, when the radio base station detects that the UE responds to requests, which included the additional UE identity, the radio base station can conclude that the UE has activated the new configuration.

  • Patent number: 8588080
Abstract: A system and method for using reserved resources in coexisting wireless networks. In one embodiment, a wireless apparatus includes a receiver, a network activity monitor, and a network access scheduler. The receiver is configured to identify a received network reservation message that inhibits access to a first wireless network for an interval defined in the reservation message. The network activity monitor is configured to monitor wireless activity on the first wireless network during the interval. • Patent number: 8577961
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for obtaining web content are disclosed. The method includes transmitting, responsive to a user request for a webpage, a primary-content-item-request to obtain a primary content item of the webpage. And a request list that is stored on the client device is accessed to obtain a list of secondary-content-item-requests that are typically needed, in connection with the primary content item, to render the webpage. The secondary-content-item-requests are then transmitted in advance of receiving a response to the primary-content-item-request. And the web page is rendered using the primary content item and the secondary content items.
