Abstract: An electrosurgical device having an electrode and an insulating piece such as a ceramic insulator is disclosed. The electrode includes an active surface for ablating and/or coagulating tissue in an electrosurgical procedure. The insulating piece surrounds the active surface and provides a barrier for the intense heat created during ablation. The insulating piece is also electrically nonconductive to prevent unwanted discharge of energy. Electrode has a retaining ledge configured to engage a lip formed on the insulating ring. The insulating ring is secured to the electrosurgical device by connecting the electrode to an electrode seat and capturing the insulating piece in between. The electrode can be connected to the electrode seat by projection welding. The insulating piece is connected to the electrode without the use of an adhesive.
Abstract: A surgical instrument comprising an instrument handle which is linked to a proximal end portion of a tube shaft and at the distal end portion of which an instrument head rotatably supporting an effector is linked so as to be inclinable. The effector includes at least one pivotable engaging element which is operable via an effector operating gear train in cooperation with the instrument handle. The effector operating gear train, in turn, has a pushing rod which is shiftably supported in the tube shaft and which, in the linking area of the instrument head at the tube shaft, abuts a pushing pin shiftably supported in the instrument head, the pushing pin being operatively connected to the engaging element.
Abstract: Treatment equipment for treating body tissue comprises heater elements which are heated by electric power supplied from an electric power supply circuit, and the heat of the heater elements is provided to the body tissue through a heat transmitting member. The state of thermal connection between the heater elements and the heat transmitting member is determined by a determining device for determining the thermal connection state.
Abstract: An electrosurgical electrode assembly having a cutting device including a catheter with a proximal and distal end, and an electrode carried on the distal end of the catheter. A controller is connected to the cutting device. A data acquisition system is connected to the controller and is capable of monitoring voltage and current output. A microprocessor may also be connected to the data acquisition system for processing voltage and current data from the data acquisition system. A generator is also connected to the data acquisition system. The controller initiates movement of the electrode upon arc initiation at the electrode. Methods of using the devices herein are also disclosed.
