  • Patent number: 9277183
Abstract: A system and method for distributing auxiliary data embedded in video data includes a content source that embeds the auxiliary data into the video data. The content source then encodes the video data together with the auxiliary data to create a distribution multiplex including compressed video data. A decoder receives and decompresses the distribution multiplex to reproduce the video data with the auxiliary data embedded. A television or other device then detects and extracts the auxiliary data from the video data. The television or other device processes the auxiliary data to support a variety of possible interactive applications including displaying a synchronized widget on a display of the television.

  • Patent number: 9277253
Abstract: A server receives metadata associated with an advertisement in a transport signal stream from an encoder, the metadata identifying a specified frame of the transport signal stream corresponding to a point in time of the advertisement. The server instructs an encoder, by a server, to insert a marker into the specified frame of the transport signal stream, the marker identifying the point in time of the advertisement. The server receives data from a smart appliance. The server detects the marker in the data. The server identifies the marker as the specified frame of the transport signal stream played by the smart appliance. The server maps the marker to the identified point in time of the advertisement.

  • Patent number: 9137568
Abstract: A method and system for logo identification based on automatic content recognition (ACR) are described in which a connected television (TV) or other end-user device may be provided with instructions to fingerprint certain regions in a video frame to identify the source of the content being displayed. Such instructions may be provided when, for example, fingerprint matching is able to identify content that is provided by multiple sources but is unable to identify the particular source of the content. In those instances, one or more additional locations may be determined for taking fingerprints in the video frame. These locations correspond to region of the video frame in which a graphical item that represents the network television station is typically displayed. A profile with these locations is generated and sent to the connected TV to take additional fingerprints to enable the identification of the network television station providing content.

  • Patent number: 8878998
Abstract: A video decoder block provides a common pathway for processing video signals encoded using different video formats. The video decoder block passes the video signals through the same processing components in order convert the signals to a common format for display or storage. Each processing component cat be disabled or by-passed to enable or disable the function performed by the component. This reduces the number of components and signal processors required in devices that need to accommodate signals of different formats.
