  • Patent number: 5168409
Abstract: The magnetic layer of a head structure can satisfy the characteristics of both the magnetic shield layer and magnetic pole layer for recording by bringing the combined upper part and lower part of the magnetic layer respectively into conformity with the widths necessary for the shield layer and for the magnetic pole, e.g., specifically, by disposing a taper or more specifically a step shape to the section of the magnetic layer to have the dimension of the upper part of the magnetic layer different from that of the lower part. The width of the magnetic layer facing one of the recording magnetic poles can be brought into conformity with the track width. Accordingly, the flux at the time of a write operation concentrates on the track width portion and hence, side writing of the recording head can be reduced. On the other hand, the width of the magnetic head on the opposed side to the magnetoresistive sensor can be extended sufficiently to fully cover the sensor.

  • Patent number: 5164870
Abstract: A magnetic head comprises a pair of magnetic core half parts abutted to each other and having magnetic alloy films on both abutted surfaces, a magnetic gap material composed of laminated films formed on the abutted surface of at least one of the pair of magnetic core half parts, and welding glass welding the pair of magnetic core half parts. The laminated films are composed of an SiO.sub.2 film and a Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 film located in sequence from the magnetic core half part side. The laminated films serve to protect the magnetic alloy film from an erosion due to the welding glass. The Cr.sub.2 O.sub.3 film ofers excellent wettability by the welding glass, thereby improving the strength of the magnetic head.

  • Patent number: 5140475
Abstract: A tape recorder is provided with a device for eliminating any slack of a tape inside a tape cassette before initiation of a reproducing operation. In the state that forward movement of a head mounting plate is inhibited by a lock member and rotation of one of paired reel spindles is inhibited by a brake, a reel gear of the other reel spindle is driven via a slack eliminating gear supported on a movable member. When the tape inside the tape cassette has been taken up over a length equal to the slack on the other reel spindle and the other reel spindle has been stopped, the slack eliminating gear receives a reaction force from the reel gear to move the movable member. This movement of the movable member releases the lock member so that the head mounting plate is allowed to move substantially further and the brake is also disengaged from the one reel spindle to start a reproducing operation.
