  • Patent number: 6921080
Abstract: A sealing ring for a shaft (3), characterized by a sealing lip (1) made of an elastomer material is flexionally dimensioned with a flexional elasticity which is sufficient for pressing a sealing section (10) of the sealing lip (1) against the surface of the shaft (3). The sealing section (11) of the sealing lip (1) is disposed with a cylindrical part of a given length (L) on the periphery of the shaft (3). The sealing lip (1) is provided with a thread (5) at least along the above-mentioned length on the shaft side, whereby a discharged medium is transported back to the sealing area (M) when the shaft (3) is rotated. By dimensioning accordingly, it is possible to dispense with an additional spring for pressing a sealing lip (1) against the shaft (3). The thread (5) is also sealed off from the surrounding area (U) in order to prevent the medium to be sealed from flowing out when the shaft (3) is not in operation.

  • Patent number: 6921085
Abstract: A package comprising gasket mounting clamps and instructions for mounting same. The mounting clamps include an expansion clamp and a takedown clamp. The expansion clamp engages an interior of a gasket inserted. The takedown clamp is looped in the gasket. The takedown clamp is urged against surface of either the expansion clamp or the gasket. A flexible fastener loops through the expansion clamp and around the takedown clamp passing through an opening in an instruction card retaining the card and takedown clamp within the gasket. The expansion clamp enables installation of gasket and expansion of the clamp without removing the fastener and without interference of the takedown clamp, fastener and card and permits observation of the card. The fastener loops through the expansion clamp and does not interfere with the expansion operation. The fastener remains intact until mounting a pipe to the gasket, assuring retention of the takedown clamp and instructions.

  • Patent number: 6921086
Abstract: A seal structure (10) has a flange (12) which locates against the flange of another member (22) and is held there by a “U” shaped clip (32). Member (22) has one or more cut outs (30) in its flange, and clip (32) has a corresponding number of tags (34) formed in one leg of its “U” shape. The or each tag (34) is bent inwards. On assembly, the flange of member (22) is placed against flange (12) and clip (32) is pushed over the sub assembly until the tag(s) (34) locate in a respective cut out (30). The need for drilling holes and riveting or bolting the assembly together is thus obviated.

  • Patent number: 6916024
Abstract: In order to provide a gasket which can be repeatedly used over a temperature range in which a rubber gasket cannot be used, which does not have any risk of damaging a flange, and which can follow the change of the distance between flanges, a gasket is constructed in such a way that two metallic coned disc springs each of which has a circulation opening for a fluid in a central portion and each of which is formed into a seal surface in which an outer peripheral portion with respect to the circulation opening rises having an arc-like curved surface are combined while being oppositely directed and have outer diameter peripheral edge portions which are welded and fixed so that by tightening flanges, repulsive force of the two coned disc springs concentratedly affects the seal surfaces consisting of the arc-like curved surfaces, and a tight fluid seal is formed between the flange surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6893024
Abstract: A bolt retainer mechanism in one layer of a multiple-layered steel (MLS) gasket, includes an aperture defining a radially inwardly extending tabs. In one embodiment, each tab is formed to define an inverted U-shaped tang positioned adjacent to, and in symmetrical registration with though axially spaced from, an associated mated aperture formed in a second layer of at least a two-layer gasket. Collectively, the plurality of tangs defines a circumscribed diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the associated mated aperture, to assure retention of a bolt supported through the mated apertures for pre-assembly shipment. Preferably, the tangs in association with each of the mated apertures are formed of a spring metal adapted to provide radially inwardly directed forces against threaded shanks of associated bolts. To enhance effectiveness of bolt retention, the bolt-contacting portion of each U-shaped tab has an axial length greater than the axial thickness of the apertures.

  • Patent number: 6886834
Abstract: A shaft sealing assembly seals a rotary shaft of a refrigerant compressor with a first sealing member, which is a lip seal. The first sealing member has a hollow portion. As the pressure in the interior space of the compressor housing increases, an outer wall surrounding the hollow portion is elastically deformed. Accordingly, a lip portion of the first sealing member receives a tension that weakens a force pressing the lip portion against the rotary shaft. Therefore, the sealing assembly improves the durability of the lip portion and maintains a satisfactory property of the lip portion to follow displacement of the rotary shaft at the same time.

  • Patent number: 6866271
Abstract: A sealing device for use with a drive shaft of a water vessel. The sealing device comprises a housing for a seal and bearing, a compression ring, a lip seal flange attachment and a diaphragm for tracking the movement of the shaft. The diaphragm is made of a resilient, flexible material and is operatively connected to the seal housing. In operation, the diaphragm tracks the motion of the drive shaft so that the drive shaft may move freely in the hull of the vessel. The diaphragm allows the rigid seal housing to also move in response to any axial, lateral or circular-axial (wobble-like) movement of the shaft so that a constant seal around the shaft is provided.

  • Patent number: 6860486
Abstract: A shaft sealing ring for a shaft comprises a sealing lip made of an elastomeric material or a PTFE compound and dimensioned as to be flaccidly bendable. The flexural elasticity is selected such that it will just be sufficient to press a sealing portion of the sealing lip into sealing engagement with the periphery of the shaft. The sealing portion of the sealing lip engages the periphery for a predetermined length. In the sealing portion, the sealing lip is provided along its circumference, at the side of the shaft, with endless, undulating return channels at least throughout this length. These channels return any medium escaping during rotation of the shaft to the space to be sealed. The return channels do not communicate with the surroundings of the shaft sealing ring. No seperate contact pressure means, such as a helical ring coil spring is required to press the sealing lip into engagement with the shaft.
