    Abstract: A printer having a plurality of switching mechanisms movable between a first position and a second position. A selector is associated with a carriage of the printer such that the carriage moves the selector so as to actuate at least one of the switching mechanisms to the second position when the carriage moves to the first non-printing region, and so as to actuate the at least one of the switching mechanisms to the first position when the carriage moves to the second non-printing region.
