  • Patent number: 11687160
Abstract: Variations in the manufacturing, tolerances, and environmental conditions, for example, of haptic trackpads can cause mechanical properties to vary click-by-click and unit-by-unit. Also, as time goes, mechanical wear or material degradation within each trackpad may change its mechanical properties. All of which may cause the haptic response received by the user to vary across similarly designed trackpads, and also change over time on the same trackpad. This may be interpreted by the user as an indication of low product quality. The following describes in detail haptic trackpads including accelerometers that enable active control and/or calibration. This allows for a more uniform user experience across a manufacturing run of trackpads and/or throughout the projected life of individual trackpads.

  • Patent number: 11662805
Abstract: A method for calibrating a visual-inertial tracking system is described. A device operates the visual-inertial tracking system without receiving a tracking request from a virtual object display application. In response to operating the visual-inertial tracking system, the device accesses sensor data from sensors at the device. The device identifies, based on the sensor data, a first calibration parameter value of the visual-inertial tracking system and stores the first calibration parameter value. The system detects a tracking request from the virtual object display application. In response to the tracking request, the system accesses the first calibration parameter value and determines a second calibration parameter value from the first calibration parameter value.

  • Patent number: 11644907
Abstract: A method includes receiving sensor data from one or more sensors that corresponds to a location of a stylus device and determining that a tip of the stylus device is in contact with a physical surface based on the sensor data. While in contact, the method includes determining a new location of the tip of the stylus device based on the location data, mitigating a tracking error of the determined new location of the tip of the stylus device by translating the new location from a 3D space domain to a 2D space domain that corresponds to the physical surface and adjusting the new location based on a comparison of the new location and historical locations. The stylus device can further ascertain surface characteristics through sensor data and simulate surface characteristics via haptic feedback effects.

  • Patent number: 11620003
Abstract: An optical sensor system that uses focused (not collimated) light optics and produces effective tracking on a variety of surfaces while having looser manufacturing and/or operational tolerances than prior focused optics systems. Embodiments provide an optical sensor system for a mouse moveable on a surface. An LED and a light sensor are coupled to a substrate. An illumination lens directs light at a first angle to the surface, with the light focused on a focal point below the surface. An imaging lens focuses light reflected at an angle generally equal to the first angle on the light sensor. The focal point is sufficiently below the surface so that that the diameter of a produced spot of light on the surface is more than 40% larger than a field of view (FOV) of the light sensor, and less than 400% larger than the FOV of the light sensor.
