  • Patent number: 4501173
Abstract: A control device for effecting variable hydraulic fluid delivery to a gearshift element of an automatic transmission and controlling actuation of the gearshift element. Such a control device includes a delivery line for supplying a pressurized fluid to the gearshift element, a throttle in the delivery line, a bypass line for bypassing the throttle and supplying the pressurized fluid to the gearshift element, and a valve arranged in the bypass line that has a piston that is moveable between an open position, which permits flow through the bypass line, and a closed position, which prevents flow. Pressure downstream of the throttle acts on the valve and urges the piston into the open position; a vehicle speed-dependent pressure acts on the valve and urges the piston into the closed position. The piston can be biased, for example, with a spring, such that the piston remains in the open position up to a predetermined vehicle speed.

  • Patent number: 4501171
Abstract: The kickdown function for modifying the operation of an automatic transmission to make the higher power of a lower gear more extensively available is arranged to take place in response to several operating parameters only one of which is the operation of a kickdown switch and the normal gear pattern is restored likewise in response to any one of several parameters. The function is thus more flexibly adapted to driving conditions and avoids the excessive shifting between gear ratios that may result from more rigidly designed kickdown systems.

  • Patent number: 4498357
Abstract: A mass accelerator and power converter unit is disclosed which utilizes centrifugal force generated by rotating masses which, when rotated within their respective cylindrical housings, exert pressure on the inner curved surfaces of the housings and roll thereon. The unit includes a wheel which interconnects each of the housings and which functions as a torque wheel to provide torque amplification. A drive mechanism, including a battery-operated electric motor causes the masses to rotate in synchronism within their associated housings. A driven mechanism including a ring gear mounted on the wheel is provided to facilitate the withdrawal of energy from the unit.

  • Patent number: 4498356
Abstract: A motor vehicle transmission comprising a speed and range sections connected via a master clutch, provides all speed selections on-the-go, i.e. without stopping the motor vehicle. An engine driven input shaft extending through the speed transmission section carries a pair of drive clutch packs for power shifting of the speeds. The power shifting between the clutch packs on this shift requires no master clutch engagement or disengagement. The plurality of speed which are not power shifted engage via gear synchronizers which require the disengagement of the master clutch while vehicle is still on-the-go. The disengagement of the master clutch simultaneously disengages the clutches in the drive clutch pack and is sequenced in such a manner that re-engagement of the master clutch follows the re-engagement of the drive clutch packs.

  • Patent number: 4495828
Abstract: A stroke enlarging mechanism comprises a stationary rack, a saddle member driven by an actuator relative to the stationary rack, an operating arm movable relative to the saddle member, and a movable rack secured to the operating arm. A first pinion and a second pinion are rotatably mounted in the saddle member to be engageable with the stationary rack and the movable rack, respectively. A coupling device couples the two pinions with each other. Upon driving the saddle member relative to the stationary rack, the two pinions are rotated thus displacing the operating arm for a distance larger than the driving stroke of the saddle member.

  • Patent number: 4494422
Abstract: A transmission controller that includes a series of fluidic comparators receiving power signals from selected ports in a manually-actuable range selector valve. Hydraulic signals representing engine throttle position and transmission output speed are beamed against each comparator main flow stream to switch the flow between a primary collector port and alternate collector port. Comparator outputs are amplified and applied to the end faces of spool valves that provide hydraulic actuator force for the transmission clutches.

  • Patent number: 4494415
Abstract: A triplex plunger pump for liquid cryogen service includes a power end frame comprising a casing formed of welded plate sections and elongated tubular members interconnected to form a main bearing support structure which minimizes the transmission of pump reaction forces to the casing outer walls. The power end frame is provided with removable guide sleeves for supporting respective cylindrical crossheads. The sleeves are retained in the power end frame in bores formed in spaced apart support plates. The crank or eccentric shaft is a multipart assembly including a cylindrical shaft having spaced apart splined sections which are interfittingly engaged with splines formed on removable eccentrics. The shaft main support bearings and the eccentric bearings are cylindrical roller bearing assemblies.

  • Patent number: 4493223
Abstract: A gear shifting speed change apparatus for a rotary electric tool such as a drill having an electric motor driving a first pair of unequal diameter pinion gears which are in continuous driving engagement with a second pair of pinion gears. The gears of second pair are independently mounted next to each other for free rotation on a shaft having an axial keyway. An axially sliding key is manually shifted to engage either one, but not both, of the second pair of gears by means of a pair of projections extending radially outwardly from the sliding key, one projection being axially outside the outer face of each gear and engageable with a recess in the outer face of the adjacent gear.

  • Patent number: 4491031
Abstract: A change speed gear mechanism for a motorcycle is controlled by a shift drum mounted to turn. First and second cam plates are coaxially fixed to the shift drum and means are provided for turning the cam plates for moving the shift drum in either direction in equal angular increments between a high speed position and a low speed position, each angular increment being larger than the angular value calculated by dividing 360.degree. by the total number of gear ratios provided by the speed change gear mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4479399
Abstract: Three clutch system for operating the composite transmission power train of a farm tractor, comprising first and second power shift clutches, and a master clutch connected by intervening gearing in separate paths to the different power shift clutches so as to be in series with either one. The power shift clutches are selectively connected by electrical hydraulic controlling means to a tractor engine at an engine connected end of a speed transmission in the power train; the master clutch is at the output end of the speed transmission, connecting it to a range transmission which completes the composite transmission power train hereof. A digital microcomputer chip is responsive to manually controlled engagement and disengagement of the master clutch and to other critical control parameters, and is programmed to monitor and control the three clutch controlling means.
