  • Patent number: 9942390
Abstract: First call identification information is stored at a network-connected device. The first call identification information identifies a call between an initiating device connected to an Internet Protocol (IP)-based network and a called device connected to the IP-based network. The call identified by the first call identification information is established through a telephone carrier network. Second call identification information is stored in the network-connected device. A determination is made that the first call identification information and the second call identification information identify the call from the initiating device to the called device. The call is connected through the IP-based network so as to avoid the telephone carrier network based upon the determining that the first call identification information and the second call identification information identify the call.

  • Patent number: 9900759
Abstract: Apparatus and methods of peer discovery in a communications network include generating a discovery request configured to identify a Tunneled Direct Link Setup (TDLS) capable peer device, transmitting the discovery request, and determining if a discovery response is received in response to the discovery request. In an aspect, the apparatus and methods may encapsulate the discovery request in a data frame such that the discovery request is transparent to an access point. In other aspects, the apparatus and methods may form the discovery request by appending TDLS capability information to a probe request. Additionally, the apparatus and methods may include determining if a discovery response is received in response to the discovery request. Thus, the apparatus and methods provide a deterministic method of peer discovery, so that a list of potential peers that are TDLS capable can be available before attempting a TDLS direct link setup.

  • Patent number: 9900079
Abstract: In one embodiment, a device in a network sets a timer interval based in part on a distance between the device and a backbone of the network. The device receives a unicast communication destined for a remote destination that was sent via broadcast. The device determines a count of receipt acknowledgements of the communication sent by other devices in the network. At the end of the timer interval, the device sends a receipt acknowledgement of the communication via broadcast, in response to the count of receipt acknowledgements sent by other devices in the network being below a threshold amount.

  • Patent number: 9894679
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. An access point (AP) may win access to an unlicensed frequency channel for a transmission opportunity. For the transmission opportunity, the AP may dynamically schedule a duration of time to be used for uplink transmissions and a duration of time to be used for downlink transmissions. The schedule may be based on a comparison of values for a parameter monitored by the AP. The parameter may be monitored for uplink traffic and for downlink traffic. The parameter may indicate the latency experienced by each direction of traffic, or an intolerance of each direction of traffic to delay. The AP may schedule the uplink and downlink durations to compensate for the discrepancy in latency between the two directions of traffic.

  • Patent number: 9872335
Abstract: A method for communication includes, in a wireless communication terminal, estimating a wake-up time that is intended to not exceed an occurrence time of a periodic transmission that is addressed to the wireless communication terminal from a wireless network. Circuitry of the wireless communication terminal is activated at the estimated wake-up time for receiving the periodic transmission. In response to finding, upon activating the circuitry, that the estimated wake-up time is too early to coincide with the periodic transmission, a next wake-up time, which is also intended to not exceed the occurrence time of the periodic transmission, is re-estimated, and the circuitry is deactivated until the re-estimated next wake-up time.

  • Patent number: 9847861
Abstract: A set of different pilot structures are designed for use in different environments and/or different user behaviors that are expected to occur in a cell. The radio conditions for a user are estimated. Each user is then assigned an area (108A-E) in resource space for its communication, which has a suitable pilot configuration. In one embodiment, the entire resource space is provided with different pilot structures in different parts (110A-D) In advance and allocation of resources to the users are then performed in order to match estimated radio conditions to the provided pilot structure. In another embodiment, allocation is performed first, and then the actual pilot structure is adapted within the allocated resource space area to suit the environmental conditions.
