  • Patent number: 11975305
Abstract: Sorbents are disclosed which exhibit less inherent leaching of arsenic and antimony than what is achieved by conventional sorbents. The inventive sorbents are formed by a process which includes the steps of contacting the porous sorbent particulate with a solution of a metal oxide or metal hydroxide, or a metal oxide or metal hydroxide precursor, and depositing metal oxides and hydroxides within the pores of the porous sorbent particulate. Purification of water is also described.

  • Patent number: 11969532
Abstract: The present invention discloses a microstructured discrimination device for separating hydrophobic-hydrophilic fluidic composites comprising particulate and/or fluids in a fluid flow. The discrimination is the result of surface energy gradients obtained by physically varying a textured surface and/or by varying surface chemical properties, both of which are spatially graded. Such surfaces discriminate and spatially separate particulate and/or fluids without external energy input. The device of the present invention comprises a platform having bifurcating microchannels arranged radially. The lumenal surfaces of the microchannels may have a surface energy gradient created by varying the periodicity of hierarchically arranged microstructures along a dimension. The surface energy gradient is varied in two regions. In one pre-bifurcation region the surface energy gradient generates a fluid flow.

  • Patent number: 11878261
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method for making a ceramic mini-tube configured for use in a fluid modification system. The method involves using an electrospinning system to receive a quantity of precursor solution. The electrospinning system creates an electric field which causes the precursor solution, when emitted, to be stretched into a fiber jet. The fiber jet is deposited on a collector resulting in a fiber mat. The fiber mat is removed from the collector, wherein the fiber mat is formed into a shape. The fiber mat is further processed so that the fiber mat retains a desired shape. A heat treatment operation is then performed to convert the fiber mat into a ceramic structure having the desired shape.

  • Patent number: 11867670
Abstract: Disclosed is a continuous process in which a subset of a number of mutually identical columns, are connected in series. The process liquid, e.g. crude cell culture harvest, is supplied to the most upstream column of the subset. It flows successively through the in series connected columns and leaves the subset through the most downstream and flows into the downstream collection vessel. As soon as the packed bed of the most upstream column is become saturated with product, this column is disconnected from the subset. It is removed from the series connection. A replacement, identical, column is added such that it is connected in series downstream from the most downstream column of the subset. This process is repeated.

  • Patent number: 11850571
Abstract: This disclosure provides polyamine sorbent compositions for the separation of metals from aqueous solutions. The polyamine sorbent compositions comprise a silica support, an aminosilane bound to the silica support, an epoxysilane bound to the silica support, and a polyamine where the polyamine is chemically tethered onto a solid silica support through via the epoxysilane. The polyamine may be further stabilized within the bulk sorbent through hydrogen bonding interactions with the aminosilane. The sorbent compositions resist leaching by H2O in an aqueous stream containing heavy oxyanion-based (and other) metals and demonstrate stability over a pH range of 2-14. The sorbent compositions are useful for the separation of metals from aqueous solutions. The cationic heavy metals are captured by the co-existing amine groups (—NH2, —NH, —N) from the polymeric network while additional metal capture capacity is derived from the introduction of a secondary silane linker.
