  • Patent number: 11828214
Abstract: An aftertreatment system comprises a housing defining a first and a second internal volume fluidly isolated from each other. A first aftertreatment leg extends from the first to the second internal volume and includes an oxidation catalyst and a filter. The oxidation catalyst receives exhaust gas from an inlet conduit and the filter emits exhaust gas into the second internal volume. A second aftertreatment leg extends from the second to the first internal volume and includes at least one SCR catalyst disposed offset from the first aftertreatment leg. A decomposition tube is disposed offset from the SCR catalyst and the oxidation catalyst. The decomposition tube is configured to receive the exhaust gas from the second internal volume and communicate it to the inlet of the at least one SCR catalyst. A reductant injection inlet is defined proximate to the inlet of the decomposition tube for reductant insertion.

  • Patent number: 11828243
Abstract: An exhaust gas control apparatus for an internal combustion engine includes: a catalyst disposed in an exhaust passage of the engine and configured to be able to occlude oxygen; an air-fuel ratio sensor that detects an air-fuel ratio of an out-flow exhaust gas; and an air-fuel ratio control device that controls an air-fuel ratio of an in-flow exhaust gas to a target air-fuel ratio. The device executes air-fuel ratio reduction control in which the target air-fuel ratio is set to a rich setting air-fuel ratio, and corrects a parameter related to the air-fuel ratio reduction control such that an amount of a reducing gas supplied to the catalyst is decreased when a minimum air-fuel ratio obtained when the detected air-fuel ratio is varied to a rich side is richer than the rich setting air-fuel ratio or an average value of detected air-fuel ratios of the in-flow exhaust gas.

  • Patent number: 11808188
Abstract: A particulate filter disclosed herein includes a wall-flow structure substrate 10 and a wash coat layer 20 held inside a partition 16 of the substrate 10. The wash coat layer 20 includes an inlet layer 22 formed to have predetermined length LA and thickness TA from near an end thereof on an exhaust gas inflow side X1, and an outlet layer 24 formed to have predetermined length LB and thickness TB from near an end thereof on an exhaust gas outflow side X2. The inlet layer 22 and the outlet layer 24 partially overlap each other. In the particulate filter disclosed herein, the inlet layer 22 contains a precious metal catalyst, while the outlet layer 24 contains substantially no precious metal catalyst. The length LA of the inlet layer is 50% or more and 75% or less of a total length L of the partition 16. Thus, the particulate filter is capable of achieving both PM collection performance and pressure-drop reduction performance at high levels.

  • Patent number: 11808732
Abstract: A method for monitoring a gas sensor (14) which comprises two electrochemical measuring cells (20, 30) and which is arranged in an exhaust tract (10) of an internal combustion engine (11), wherein the sensor elements (20, 30) exhibit a substantially identical sensitivity towards a first gas component and a different sensitivity towards a second gas component and are insensitive towards further gas components. In an operating state in which an exhaust gas stream at the gas sensor (14) contains less of the second gas component than of the first gas component a concentration of the first gas component is calculated from each of the sensor signals from the sensor elements (20, 30) and a defect in a sensor element (20, 30) is deduced from the concentrations of the first gas component.

  • Patent number: 11808196
Abstract: A method of detecting a need for regeneration of an exhaust particulate filter is described. A first pressure drop is detected in a flow section of an exhaust system which includes the exhaust particulate filter. In addition, an exhaust gas temperature is determined. An exhaust gas mass flow flowing through the exhaust particulate filter is then calculated on the basis of the exhaust gas temperature and the pressure drop. Furthermore, a second pressure drop at the exhaust particulate filter is determined. A need for regeneration is detected when the second pressure drop exceeds a predefined pressure limit value that is dependent on the exhaust gas mass flow. Moreover, an exhaust system for an internal combustion engine is presented which includes an exhaust particulate filter.
