  • Patent number: 6102577
Abstract: A bearing gallery thermal movement isolation device permits the inner bearing support ring of the bearing gallery to float freely relative to the outer bearing gallery housing under thermal expansion and contraction during engine operation without transmitting thermally induced movement or forces to the oil supply and scavenge lines, or to the cooling air supply line. An oil transfer tube isolation connector is disposed on an inward end of the transfer tube and on the bearing gallery. The connector includes a radially extending sleeve on the inner bearing support ring; and a sliding O-ring engaging the sleeve and transfer tube. An oil scavenge canal is defined between the O-ring and a threaded connection between the transfer tube and the oil supply boss of the bearing gallery.

  • Patent number: 6082217
Abstract: A transmission selector mechanism (16) in a vehicle (10) having a transmission (20), a braking system (14), and a gear selector mechanism (22) is used to prevent the transmission selector mechanism (16) from moving out of a Park position (24) unless a brake pedal (18) has been depressed. A brake pedal (18) remotely controls the braking system (14) and is moveable between a rest position and an applied position. The gear selector mechanism (22) is moveable between a Park position (24) and a plurality of drive positions (26) for remotely controlling the transmission (20). The gear selector mechanism (22) includes an axially movable rod (42) having a bottom end (60) and a detent (62) extending laterally from the rod (42) for disposition in any one of the Park (24) and drive (26) positions. • Patent number: 6082903
Abstract: A bearing device includes a slidemember made of porous-sintered-metal for slidably supporting a rotational shaft, and a holding member made of the same porous-sintered-metal and holding the slide member. The two members are constructed of the same material, and yet the density of the slide member is greater than that of the holding member so that lubricating oil is supplied continuously from the holding member to the slide member due to the capillary phenomenon. The bearing device constructed as above prevents the lubricating oil from flowing out, improves abrasion-resistance, and thereby extends the service life. Further, this construction allows the bearing device to be smaller and thinner.

  • Patent number: 6077185
Abstract: This invention relates to a toroidal type continuously variable transmission in which a plurality of power rollers are squeezed between an input cone disk and an output cone disk which are arranged upon the same axis of rotation. The gyration angles of the power rollers, in other words the speed change ratio, are changed by pistons driving the power rollers in directions perpendicular to the axis of rotation in response to hydraulic pressure. Hydraulic pressure is supplied from a speed change control valve via hydraulic fluid conduits. By providing, for example, orifices in hydraulic fluid conduits so as to exert resistance against movement of the pistons due to external disturbance, the influence exerted by displacement of a particular one of the power rollers due to external disturbance upon the other ones of the power rollers is minimized, and thus the spoiling of the synchronization of the power rollers by vibration is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6071013
Abstract: A hydraulic bearing device includes a cylindrical bearing metal, a groove-like pocket, a dynamic pressure generation land, a fluid flowing space and an oil supply hole. The cylindrical bearing metal supports a rotating shaft. The pocket is formed in an inner peripheral surface of the bearing metal. The pocket defines the dynamic pressure generation land. The fluid flowing space is formed in the dynamic pressure generation land. The oil supply hole supplies fluid from a fluid pressure source to the pocket and the fluid flowing space. The dynamic pressure generation land which has been heated due to fluid friction is cooled by the fluid passing through the fluid flowing space formed in the dynamic pressure generation land. It is thus possible to inhibit thermal expansion of the hydraulic bearing device, especially the dynamic pressure generation land.

  • Patent number: 6068568
Abstract: A silent chain is provided which has reduced elongation based on wear and which is capable of maintaining a high accuracy over a long period of time in use. The inner surfaces of pin holes formed in at least joint trains of plates have been subjected to shaving, and a hard layer of at least one hard metal carbide selected from a group including CrC, TiC, VC and NbC, is formed on the surface of each pin. By shaving the inner surface of each pin hole, the surface pressure applied between the pin hole inner surface and the pin inserted therein becomes lower, whereby the wear of the pin and the pin hole is diminished. Further, since the hard layer on the pin surface is very hard and is chemically stable, the affinity of each plate for the inner surface of each pin hole formed therein is small. Thus, even under the condition of boundary lubrication, it is difficult for adhesion to occur between the pin hole inner surface and the pin inserted therein.

  • Patent number: 6053063
Abstract: A worm gear for transforming a rotary motion into a reciprocating (linear) motion comprises a threaded spindle (2) which is mounted for rotation in a gear ring nut (1), a profiled gear ring (5) engaging into a screw thread of the threaded spindle at one peripheral point. The gear ring (5) surrounds the threaded spindle (2), is arranged eccentric to the spindle axis (3) and fixed on an inner ring (8) of a ball bearing (10) surrounding the gear ring (5). The invention provides that, within the gear ring nut (1), the bearings (4) for rotatably mounting the threaded spindle (2) abut against both end faces of the gear ring (5).
