  • Patent number: 8559050
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method to control an imaging device. A first collection of a plurality of two-dimensional image points in a first vector space for a source image and a second collection of a plurality of two-dimensional image points in a second vector space for a target image are received. The first collection of two-dimensional image points and the second collection of two-dimensional image points are converted into a homogenous form to apply affine matrix transformations. A matrix transformation is solved to map the first collection of the plurality of two-dimensional image points to the second collection of the plurality of two-dimensional image points. The matrix transformation is used to adjust distortion of the target image in an imaging device.

  • Patent number: 8514426
Abstract: An audio data storing unit stores therein audio data, and an image data storing unit stores therein image data. A control information storing unit stores a playback method used for playing back the audio data and a print method used for printing out the image data. The playback method indicates whether the audio data should be played back when a receiving unit receives the composite data, or should be played back after an instruction is input by a user. The print method indicates whether the image data should be printed out when the receiving unit receives the composite data, or should be printed out after an instruction is input by the user. A speaker unit plays back the audio data in accordance with the playback method. A printer unit prints out the image data in accordance with the print method.

  • Patent number: 8482755
Abstract: A print controller and associated methods are disclosed. Some print jobs received in the print controller are stored in a rasterized or ripped job spool. The release of these jobs is coordinated by a control system in the print controller. The control system processes an algorithm to determine a sequence of releasing one or more print jobs stored in the rasterized job spool. The control system generates a job despool token and transmits the job despool token to a rasterized job handling system through the data stream of the raw print jobs (such as through the interpreter). The job despool token follows the normal data stream of print jobs through the print controller to the rasterized job handling system. Responsive to receiving and processing the job despool token, the rasterized job handling system releases the print job from the rasterized job spool to a print queue.

  • Patent number: 8477331
Abstract: The present invention relates to an apparatus and method for creating an electronic version of printed matter. Advantageously, the electronic version of the printed matter is such that is has the same appearance and layout as the printed matter. The electronic version of the printed matter is also such that that a viewer's interaction with the electronic version can trigger the sending of information to the viewer. The information can be in various forms including an e-mail or e-coupon. It comes with an intelligence and interactive module where viewers can read other languages' printed matter instantaneously with multi-lingual translation both in text and voice. The apparatus and method is also capable of compressing the electronic version so that it can be quickly and efficiently distributed to viewers over numerous networks. These networks can include LAN, WAN, internet, or mobile and wireless communication networks.

  • Patent number: 8462384
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for automated conversion of color images to aesthetically enhanced gray scale images. In one embodiment, the mix of color channels of a color image is automatically determined as a result of analysis of the image for the generation of a gray scale image. In one example, the data of a color channel (e.g., Blue) that is not suitable for a gray scale representation is not used. The adjustment strength depends on the image itself. In one example, a stronger color channel is automatically weighted less than a weaker color channel for enhancement. In one example, after the contrast is further strengthened through nonlinear scaling, the boundary portion of the image is darkened to strengthen the edges and draw attention to the center of the image. Optionally, an attractive color balance adjustment is also made according to the gray levels to further enhance the appearance.

  • Patent number: 8300701
Abstract: An editing system handles offspeed and full speed playback of long GOP compressed video information by having one decoder for full-speed or slower forward playback of long GOP compressed motion video information, and a second single-frame, stateless decoder for use for off-speed playback. When compressed data is read from a file, the compressed data for at least one complete group of pictures is read into a buffer, herein called a compressed data buffer. A data structure, herein called a frame ring, is constructed to describe each image in the compressed data buffer. The single-frame, stateless decoder receives decompression parameters in addition to the compressed data for each image from this buffer. If the compressed data is a B-frame or P-frame, then uncompressed data for any other images (i.e., reference frames) required by the decoder to decompress the frame also is input to the single-frame, stateless decoder.

  • Patent number: 8274675
Abstract: This invention has as its object to allow an authentication process that avoids unnecessary information from being stored in a digital camera irrespective of whether or not a digital camera connected to the printer has a direct print function. To this end, in this invention, in an early stage of connection between a digital camera DSC and PD printer, the PD printer side requests an object which contains a keyword as authentication information of those which are stored and held by the DSC (S29). As a result, after it is determined the returned information contains authentication information, the printer notifies the DSC of its own authentication information (S33).

  • Patent number: 8270044
Abstract: A scanning apparatus includes a scanning head that scans an image of a document positioned on a stage glass, but varying in its distance therefrom. A boundary line is detected to determine an amount of skew therein. A skew line is compared with an established reference line, and a correction factor is calculated based on the result of the comparison. The original image processed to map the boundary line to the reference line and image data inside of the boundary line is similarly mapped based on the calculated correction factor. Beneficially, skews of an image produced when a thick book is scanned can be corrected simply.

  • Patent number: 8249855
Abstract: A set of candidate documents, each of which may be part of a bilingual, parallel set of documents, are identified. The set of documents illustratively includes textual material in a source language. It is then determined whether parallel text can be identified. For each document in the set of documents, it is first determined whether the parallel text resides within the document itself. If not, the document is examined for links to other documents, and those linked documents are examined for bilingual parallelism with the selected documents. If not, named entities are extracted from the document and translated into the target language. The translations are used to query search engines to retrieve the parallel correspondent for the selected documents.

  • Patent number: 8233160
Abstract: A system and method for automatically placing a rotated row in a multi-up imposition. Calculations can be performed, which are required to execute an automated multi-up imposition. The dimensions of the input document can be then evaluated against the available area in the imposed layout to determine whether there is sufficient space to add a rotated row to the layout (e.g., the “Dutch Row” in Dutch imposition). If it is determined that there is sufficient space for a rotated row, a rotated page row can then be added to the imposed layout.

  • Patent number: 8208175
Abstract: A target pixel is processed according to a blended combination of two or more error diffusion techniques. For example, the two or more techniques may include a standard error diffusion technique and rank ordered error diffusion. Additionally, or alternatively, a quantization resolution is selected for the target pixel based on information regarding the pixel. For example, a quantization resolution is selected based on a relative position of the target pixel or based on a value of the target pixel and/or values of pixels neighboring the target pixel.

  • Patent number: 8194288
Abstract: What is disclosed is a novel system and method for adjusting the gray balance of a multifunction color marking device in order to change the device's neutral behavior to a desired level of acceptability. The gray balance aim curve is specified by: L*, L*(aim), a*(aim) and b*(aim), where L*(aim)=f1(L*), a*(aim)=f2(L*), and b*(aim)=f3(L*). After receiving the user-modified gray balance aim curve, the target color device constructs a 3-D N×N×N L*a*b* to L*a*b* pre-LUT to reflect the neutral aim change by transforming a neutral axis input of L*, a*=0 and b*=0 to L*(aim), a*(aim) and b*(aim). Colors further away from the neutral axis are shifted by a lesser amount. The pre-LUT is then concatenated with the current color LUT to produce an updated color LUT which is applied to the device to achieve the desired neutral behavior. The gray balance aim curve can also be based upon a pre-determined user preference.
