  • Patent number: 4780861
Abstract: An automatic, ultrasonic system for controlling the filling of different sizes of beverage containers which may or may not contain various quantities of ice. The system includes a transducer assembly and a control module, both preferably connected to a beverage dispenser valve assembly. The transducer assembly includes a pair of piezo-electric crystals for separately transmitting and receiving ultrasonic wave energy from the grate, the cup lip, the top of any ice in the cup, and the rising liquid level. The control module includes a microcomputer and associated circuitry.

  • Patent number: 4779240
Abstract: An ultrasonic sensor system particularly for automatic door openers of a swinging door type, in addition to sensors (14) for people approaching a door for controlling opening and closing purposes, has at least three microprocessor controlled ultrasonic beam transducer (40, 41, 42) for projecting expanded unidirectional ultrasonic beams in a selected directions in a detection zone in the path of the swinging door and ultrasonic detector for converting reflected single multiple path ultrasonic beam energy into an analog electrical signal which constitute an acoustical image of objects in and bounding the selected detection zone. This acoustical image is stored or, a number characteristic thereof is stored and this acoustic image is then compared with a later acoustical image of an object in the selected detection zone and then the comparison is used to signal a lack of correlation between the first and second acoustical images to produce a signal preventing operation of the door opening.

  • Patent number: 4733233
Abstract: The infusion of fluid from the formation being drilled into a borehole is detected in an MWD system by modulating the drilling fluid stream in the drill pipe and detecting pressure variations commensurate with the modulation at the surface in the annulus between the drill pipe and wall of the well. Modulation to generate the pressure variations in the annulus is accomplished by the same pressure generating element used to generate pressure signals in the mud column for MWD measurements. The detected pressure variations are compared in phase and/or amplitude with their own near term past history or with the drilling fluid pressure variations in the drill pipe resulting from the modulation. Variations in phase or amplitude which can not be attributed to changes in the drilling operation will be indicative of fluid infusion.

  • Patent number: 4554548
Abstract: In a pulse radar apparatus the receiver comprises a main transmission channel connected to a directional antenna and an interference canceller connected to said channel for selecting target returns obtained through the major lobe of the antenna radiation pattern. The canceller contains an auxiliary transmission channel connected to an omnidirectional antenna for the intermediate-frequency detection of target returns and of signals composed of noise and/or continuous-wave interference signals; a subtraction unit; and a phase- and amplitude-compensating network having two circuit arrangements, one for the in-phase output signal and one for the quadrature output signal of the auxiliary transmission channel for generating output signals for the subtraction unit. Each circuit arrangement consists of a first mixer connected to the subtraction unit and the auxiliary transmission channel, a filter connected to the first mixer, and a second mixer connected to the filter and the auxiliary transmission channel.
