  • Patent number: 5145367
Abstract: A vacuum instrument for dental hygiene and dental treatment which is intended to permit parodontological treatment of the tooth pockets. The instrument has an elastic suction cap which can produce a sealed vacuum over the gum pockets and interdental crevices. A treatment liquid is supplied to the suction cap and removed by the suction. Intermittent application of the vacuum produces a pumping action, which through likewise intermittent rinsing results in optimal cleaning of the interdental crevices as far as the base of the pocket.

  • Patent number: 5096418
Abstract: An air motor and accompanying air distributor and motor output drive means are axially stacked within a tubular dental handpiece. A fiber optic bundle extends through a special passage in the thick-wall side of an eccentrically positioned cavity in the motor casing. The bundle also extends axially through the other components in the handpiece and further is directed to a dental tool head mounted on one end of the handpiece. The fiber optic bundle very effectively illuminates a cutting burr or other element mounted on the tool head, a gasket adjacent the motor prevents leakage of air past the metal-to-metal surfaces of the air motor and surrounding housing. The gasket is also provided with a hole through a thick-edge wall for the fiber optic bundle. A further flat resilient seal prevents air passage passed the motor output shaft and the spaces between the bearing races.

  • Patent number: 5007833
Abstract: A structural element for forming a transition joint between a support bar and an associated mounting sleeve in the fabrication of support structure for holding prosthetic teeth. The element is precision molded of plastic and comprises a solid elongated body with an outwardly open elongated recess extending longitudinally of the body. The recess is sized to closely engage the associated mounting sleeve throughout the length of the recess. On the side of the body opposite the recess, there is an outwardly open elongated groove having a width to resiliently engage the support bar. In its preferred form, the groove and the recess have longitudinal axes which are in the same plane to assure that the support bar is in alignment with the axis of the support sleeve. Also, the recess has a generally semi-cylindrical configuration sized to conform to the exterior of the support sleeve and to make contact therewith throughout its length.

  • Patent number: 5000683
Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a handheld dental instrument which automatically regulates the pressure at which the working end of the instrument engages a person's teeth or gums. The instrument includes a probe that is spring biased into a set position. The bias of the probe is predetermined, and is designed to yield to a preset minimum force. The deformation of the instrument's spring bias keeps the force of the instrument consistent against any object. This consistent pressure assures that the instrument will work in the same manner, and give the same results, time after time. Additionally, the consistency of the instrument will result in more accurate results and increase in the dentist's confidence while using the instrument.

  • Patent number: 4992047
Abstract: A tool is set forth defined by elongate main body with a forwardly positioned leg defined by a central bore directed through the main body and forward leg, with an enlarged cylindrical knurled handle mounted rearwardly of the main body for securement thereof for positioning interiorly of an individual's mouth cavity. The tool is geometrically configured to enchance comfort and use in its application within the cavity. A modified configuration of the invention includes a fiber optic cable superimposed within an overlying chamber mounted coextensively with the main body and forward leg, wherein the main body and forward leg extend to the forward terminal end of the forward leg to enhance viewing interiorly of the mouth cavity. A further modified configuration of the instant invention includes a valve positioned to the main body and formed with a reciprocating blade to enable manual modification of vacuum directed through the tool.
