Patent number: 7255314Abstract: Various types of extendable support structures provide a lateral dimension that is defined by at least one lazy tong, and the longitudinal dimension is variable by extension and retraction of the at least one lazy tong. The extendable structure may include a plurality of adjacent and attached lazy tongs that are capable of supporting a significant load through the interconnection of the adjacent lazy tongs forming the structure. The extendable structure may be fully retracted to minimize the longitudinal dimension and thereby provide a compact structure, such as one that can be easily transported or stored. The extendable structure may be extended to a length as required for a particular purpose and limited to a maximum longitudinal dimension when the structure is being used to support a load. As such the various types of extendable support structures may be used in many scenarios, such as for providing a loading ramp, bridge, walkway, or working surface.Type: GrantFiled: March 14, 2005Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Inventors: Stuart Craig Hanson, Frederik D. Patent number: 7255355Abstract: A portable collapsible stand includes first, second, and third support frames, a work surface frame, and a telescoping strut pivotably connected to the first and work surface frames. The second frame projects perpendicularly from a lower portion of the first frame. A first end of the third frame is rotatably connected to an upper portion of the first frame such that the third frame pivots from a first parallel position to a second perpendicular position with respect to the first frame. An upper portion of the work surface frame is rotatably connected to the upper portion of the first frame. In operation, the stand can assume a collapsed position in which the first, third and work surface frames are generally parallel, and an operating position in which the third frame and first frame are perpendicular and the work surface frame and surface supporting the stand are parallel.Type: GrantFiled: January 3, 2005Date of Patent: August 14, 2007Assignee: MK Diamond Products, Inc.Inventors: John Chisholm, Shawn Tsung, Paulo Carrolo

Patent number: 7246779Abstract: A telescopic leg has a housing with a lift cylinder or mechanical screw jack type lift and an external track for adjustably coupling to a member. Such telescopic legs can be used to define a variety of table base configurations by providing multiple angularly aligned tracks in each leg for receiving cross supports adjustably coupled to the tracks.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 2003Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Assignee: Suspa IncorporatedInventor: James E. Patent number: 7246784Abstract: A spring-loaded shelf for an existing beverage cooler, which obviates the need for a user to reach more deeply within the confines of the cooler for a beverage as the contents of the cooler become depleted. The spring-loaded shelf has a base, a platform pivotally attached to the base by two scissor-type linkages, and a lifting mechanism for selectively and automatically raising the platform with respect to the base upon the scissor-type linkages, as the weight of the beverages placed upon the platform gradually decreases. Use of the spring-loaded shelf prevents injury to the user while retrieving a beverage from the cooler, and also provides for increased accessibility and visibility of the contents of the cooler.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2004Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Inventor: Hector Lopez

Patent number: 7246474Abstract: A metal shingle system which is resistant to leakage, even under severe weather conditions. The key attribute of the new system to the design of the side edge of the shingle such that water that seeps between adjacent shingles cannot be blown upward. Briefly, the top edge is overturned and the bottom edge is underturned such that they can be interconnected as is well known in the art. One side edge is folded to form a gutter area into which water that seeps between laterally adjacent shingles is collected and drained onto the lower row of shingles. The top of the gutter area is blocked by the overturned top edge, which extends into the gutter region. Also disclosed is an improved tool for cutting the shingles, such as is needed around obstructions and at the end of the roofline.Type: GrantFiled: September 22, 2004Date of Patent: July 24, 2007Inventors: Gerald M. Patent number: 7243466Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for protecting buildings from damage due to seismic waves. The system comprises a bed of sand contained between two layers of polymer membrane, upon this sand bed a rests a first concrete slab, this first concrete slab supports, through a plurality of coil springs and shock absorbers, a second concrete slab. The structure to be protected is attached to the upward facing surface of the second concrete slab. In the event of an earthquake, the sand bed acts to slow the propagation of seismic waves, while the plurality of springs and shock absorbers isolates the structure from ground movements caused by the waves.Type: GrantFiled: October 28, 2003Date of Patent: July 17, 2007Inventor: Jean-Claude Bloch-Fortea

Patent number: 7229051Abstract: A support device for supporting at least one medical wire adjacent a supporting surface. The support device comprises a plate-shaped holder portion defining a peripheral edge, the holder portion comprising a support slot defining a loading opening made in the peripheral edge of the holder portion, a holder well made transversely in the holder portion spacedly from its peripheral edge, and a channel made transversely in the holder portion and extending between the holder well and the loading opening. The holder well is dimensioned such that it is broader than the medical wire the support device is destined to support. The support device further comprises attachment means connected to the holder portion for attaching the support device to the supporting surface.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2005Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Inventor: Robert Mailhot, Jr.

Patent number: 7229057Abstract: The rotating stem mount has an anchor block and a lag screw extending through the anchor block for mounting the anchor block to a stationary surface. A guide bearing is mounted on a circular shoulder on the anchor block near the base end of the anchor block. The outer race of a thrust bearing is retained to the load end of the anchor block in axial alignment with the anchor block by means of a bearing retainer. A cylindrical housing encloses the thrust bearing, the guide bearing and the anchor block. The housing has a diametrical partition therein in a mid-region thereof. A bolt retains the diametrical partition to the inner race of the thrust bearing. The housing further has an internal circular step in its base end, and that circular step fitly encloses the guide bearing. A stem-like member is mountable to the load end of the housing.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2004Date of Patent: June 12, 2007Inventor: Christopher N. Cavell

Patent number: 6640509Abstract: An adjustable length bracing device can be installed in a window frame or door frame to secure a sheet of covering material that is positioned to protect the window or door from flying debris resulting from a hurricane, tornado, or other storm. The brace device consists of two independent and moveable bars, which can be adjusted to fit the inside of a window or door opening. The adjustment is made by the use of a metal clip attached to one bar and inserted into a notch on the other bar. The ends of each bar have rubber pads to help prevent marring the window or door opening or frame and to prevent any slipping of the bracing device assembly. Once the assembly is in position, a locking metal ring holds both independent bars together to prevent movement.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 2001Date of Patent: November 4, 2003Assignee: Gateway Manufacturing, Inc.Inventor: Dale M.
