Patent number: 4891216Abstract: There is disclosed, in one aspect, a composition for forming a protective barrier while disinfecting substrates such as human or animal skin. The composition comprises two gels adapted to be simultaneously applied and mixed in situ and to adhere onto the substrate. The first gel comprises an aqueous solution containing suitable amounts of a protic acid, preferably lactic acid. The second gel comprises an amount of a metal chlorite such as sodium chlorite, such that the chlorite ion concentration in the form of chlorous acid in the combined gels is no more than about 15% by weight of the total amount of chlorite ion concentration. The second gel also contains a polysulfonic acid salt. The anion of that salt has the formula: ##STR1## wherein X has a value such that the molecular weight of the anionic portion of the polymer is from about 1,000,000 to about 5,000,000. In another aspect, there is disclosed a method for treating skin diseases.Type: GrantFiled: April 14, 1987Date of Patent: January 2, 1990Assignee: Alcide CorporationInventors: Robert D. Patent number: 4888175Abstract: An aseptic package of a material susceptible to bacterial or viral infection utilizes a film or sheet of a plastic packaging material having a biocidal agent dissolved or dispersed therein. The biocidal agent comprises 10,10-oxybisphenoxarsine or a biocidal derivative or analog thereof, in an amount sufficient to inhibit biocidal activity in the contents of the package. The biocidal agent is present in solution in or in combination with a plasticizer for the plastic sheet or film in an amount from 0.001 to 5.0% by weight of the plastic. The sheet or film is a hydrocarbon-based material, such as a polyalkylene resin or polyolefin, e.g., polyethylene or polypropylene. The biocidal agent is present in solution in or in combination with a plasticizer for the plastic sheet or film. The enclosed material may be an organic product, such as a food or a plant or may be formed in the shape of a dispensible liner for bath tubs.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1988Date of Patent: December 19, 1989Inventors: Kenneth R.
