Patent number: 11673362Abstract: Described are novel composite structural panels and methods of forming such panels. In some examples, a method comprises wrapping a mandrel with a composite tape to form a composite tube. This wrapping operation allows forming composite tubular structures with any cross-sectional profiles defined by the mandrel. The wrapping is also used to control the fiber orientations in the composite tubular structures. The composite tube is then cut into composite tubular structures. In some examples, the composite tube is partially cured prior to the cutting, which allows removal of the mandrel while preserving the shape of the composite tube. This cutting operation allows forming composite tubular structures with different lengths, shapes, and orientations of the ends. The composite tubular structures are disposed on a support structure and are bonded to each other. In some examples, this bonding operation also involves final curing of the composite tubular structures.Type: GrantFiled: January 2, 2020Date of Patent: June 13, 2023Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventor: Sean C. Patent number: 11667448Abstract: A resealable flap device in the form of a sheet, for applying to or incorporating in packaging, comprises: a base layer 30 of flexible material, and an upper layer 40 of stiff material. The sheet is cut (15) through both layers to outline a flap portion 14, the cut leaving an edge in a hinge region 18, the upper layer being removed behind the line of the hinge region 18. In this way the flexible base layer forms a hinge 18 that is easy to handle and does not spring back, while the stiff upper layer maintains the shape of the flap.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2020Date of Patent: June 6, 2023Assignee: OPM ADVANCE LIMITEDInventors: Ian David Michael Bell, Christopher John Ellison

Patent number: 11524495Abstract: The pressing of an article is achieved with a closed-loop feedback press. The closed-loop feedback press is effective to measure an amount of pressure applied and adjust the pressure to achieve a prescribed amount of compression on the article. Further, the press may leverage a closed-loop feedback system to maintain a consistent temperature of one or more platens. The press is able to adjust a pressure applied one or more times during a pressing operation to accelerate a temperature change in the pressed article while reducing the pressure applied as the temperature approaches a target temperature to limit unintentional deformation and bleeding of the pressed material of the article.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2020Date of Patent: December 13, 2022Assignee: NIKE, Inc.Inventors: Stephen Hancock, Nicolai Luksza, Adam Montoya, Charles W.
