  • Patent number: 10212269
Abstract: A system and method of determining whether a device user is driving provide an improved ability to switch between a normal mode and a driving mode with fewer false positives and false negatives. Bluetooth connectivity and motion sensor readings are fused to make the drive mode determination and to set the timing of nay switch. In an embodiment, Bluetooth devices correlated with driving are used to modify the confidence level and the decision threshold associated with sensor input. When a node having a driving correlation higher than a particular threshold is connected to a device, a lower threshold is applied to the motion sensor input for entering drive mode and a higher threshold is applied for exiting drive mode. Similarly, when a user device is not connected to any highly correlated node, default thresholds may be used for entering and exiting the drive mode.

  • Patent number: 10147096
Abstract: A diagnostic device may enable the retrieval of user device information and an eligibility status of a user device for a device return, a device upgrade, or a device exchange. The diagnostic device may receive the user device information of the user device via a wired or wireless communication interface. The diagnostic device may send the user device information to a server associated with a wireless carrier network. In turn, the server associated with the wireless carrier network may use the user device information to determine an eligibility status of the user device for a device return, a device exchange, or a device upgrade. Subsequently, the diagnostic device may receive a unique code generated by the wireless carrier network, in which the unique code is associated with the user device information of the user device. The diagnostic device then presents the unique code on a display of the diagnostic device.

  • Patent number: 10149271
Abstract: A method of enabling a first wireless information device to access absolute location data in which the first wireless information device does not possess its own absolute location finding system but is instead able to receive, over a wireless network, absolute location data from a second wireless information device that does have its own absolute location finding system. The present invention hence enables wireless information devices to share absolute location data: for example, a mobile telephone with GPS capability can be used as a local “beacon” to broadcast its absolute location to any nearby devices over a personal area wireless network (e.g. a Bluetooth network) so that those nearby devices can use that location data. Hence, a camera with no location finding system of its own could obtain location data from a nearby GPS equipped mobile telephone over a Bluetooth PAN and watermark its images with location data.

  • Patent number: 10142423
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to manage communication sessions to handover between a direct connection at a secondary wireless device and a relayed connection to the secondary wireless device via a primary wireless device. A connection manager of a secondary wireless device can trigger transfer of a communication session based on measurements of performance metrics for the communication session. Upon detection of performance degradation in a local connection or a backhaul connection or both, the connection manager of the secondary wireless device can determine proximity of and/or capabilities for connections of the primary wireless device and instigate transfer of the communication session between different connection types, such as between a direct connection and a relayed connection. The transfer of the communication session can occur without user intervention or in response to input from the user without interrupting or reestablishing the communication session.

  • Patent number: 10136272
Abstract: Methods and systems for registering a phone device on a synthetic communication network are described. One implementation receives a request to connect the phone device to a synthetic communication network that transmits messages over a data network using one or more phone numbers from a voice network. A phone number and a country code associated with the phone device to be used for communications over the synthetic network are obtained. The phone number is normalized to a standard format distinguishing the resulting normalized phone number from international phone numbers using the synthetic network. Before the phone device is registered, an association between the normalized phone number and the phone device is verified by sending a verification message addressed to the phone device that loops back to the phone device. If the phone device confirms the verification as authentic, an authorization allows the phone device to communicate over the synthetic network.

  • Patent number: 10117146
Abstract: A heterogeneous network comprising macro network devices and micro network devices operates to maintain a dynamic data set of neighbor relations for a potential transfer of a User Equipment (UE) device from one network zone to another network zone. In response to detecting a failure of a macro network device to establish a network connection with a network device, a dynamic management of the data set initiates. A capacity number of network connections is determined for the macro network device (e.g., macro eNB sector carrier) based on the data set of neighbor relations. A threshold number is determined from the network neighbor device data, representing the set of micro network devices with which the macro network device is operable to establish the network. A defined number of micro network devices is maintained that is less than the threshold number of the network neighbor device data.
