  • Patent number: 9503507
Abstract: When a user purchases digital rights to a media file, or otherwise obtains the right to have a copy of the media file downloaded to the user's wireless device, a link to the media file that is stored in the media database is stored in a user storage database. When the user desires to have the media file downloaded to the user's wireless device, the user sends a request to the network. The network performs a check to determine whether the user is authorized to receive the requested media file, and if so, causes the requested media file to be downloaded to the user's wireless device where the media file is stored in the local memory of the wireless device for playback by the user on the wireless device.

  • Patent number: 9430760
Abstract: An on-vehicle apparatus transmits first license request information to content to be purchased, to a server, and receives content data, to which a first license issued by the server based on the first license request information is added, from the server. The server transmits the content data, to which the first license is added based on the first license request information, to the on-vehicle apparatus, transmits second license request urging information to a communication terminal based on driving end notification information, and issues a second license to the content data based on the second license request information. The communication terminal transmits driving end notification information to the server based on determination that driving of a vehicle having the on-vehicle apparatus mounted thereon is ended, and transmits second license request information according to the second license request urging information to the server.

  • Patent number: 9424594
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention are directed to systems, methods and computer program products for providing targeted location-based communications. An exemplary apparatus is configured to receive an encoded signal, decode the encoded signal such that embedded data is retrieved, send the embedded data a remote server; and receive a message based at least partially on sending the embedded data. Another exemplary apparatus is configured to provide the encoded signal by receiving data input, receiving a host signal, embedding the data input within the host signal such that an encoded signal is generated, and transmitting the encoded signal. A third exemplary apparatus is configured to provide the targeted communications by storing one or more messages associated with an entity, receiving data, selecting at least one of the one or more messages based at least partially on the data received, and sending the at least one of the one or more messages selected.

  • Patent number: 9406067
Abstract: A system and method of identity verification at a point-of-identification verification (POV) using biometric-based identity recognition and an identity verifying score based upon a presenter's initial identification presentment and their subsequent action in the system. The system also provides tracking and evaluates verifier activity within the system through biometric-based identity recognition and a performance score based upon their actions and the results of their actions within the system. System users register at least one biometric identifier and personal and/or business identity-verifying data. Users present a biometric sample obtained from their person and their system ID number to conduct identification transactions. This data is used to authenticate the user's identity to a percentage of reliability and allows a user with consistently positive ID verifications to establish a higher ID score, strengthening their credibility within the system.

  • Patent number: 9378518
Abstract: One embodiment of the invention enhances the security of electronic signatures during transmission. A peripheral device, which may be located remotely and separate from a host processing system, captures the signature. The peripheral device then binds the signature to the particular transaction record and transmits it to the host processing system. The host processing system validates or confirms the received signature before accepting the transaction. Binding the signature and record data together at the point-of-use reduces the likelihood that someone may be able to hack into the transmission medium, encrypted or not, and obtain the raw signature data. By binding or associating the signature and transaction record data together at the point-of-use, each transaction has a unique key, further foiling attempts at hacking. In various implementations, rather than associating the whole signature with the transaction record data, signature sample points or segments are encrypted with transaction record data.

  • Patent number: 9354857
Abstract: A system, method, and program product is provided that updates the firmware on a hybrid drive by reserving a memory area within the hybrid disk drive's nonvolatile memory buffer. The firmware update is then stored in the reserved memory area. The next time the platters of the hybrid disk drive spin up, the firmware update that is stored in the reserved memory area is identified. The identified update is then written to a firmware memory of a firmware that controls the operation of the hybrid drive. In one embodiment, the update is written to the firmware memory by flashing the firmware's memory. After the firmware is updated, the hybrid drive is reset. Resetting of the hybrid drive includes executing the updated firmware.

  • Patent number: 9324072
Abstract: A memory is organized into blocks. In a bit-flipping operation, a memory block is read, the read bit data values are inverted, and the inverted data is written back to the memory block. Inverted memory blocks are tracked by setting a flag bit in the memory block, or by storing a pointer to a memory block. In a read operation, a memory block is read and, if the tracking method indicates the memory block is inverted, the read data values are reverted before being returned. In a write operation, a memory block is read and, if the tracking method indicates the memory block is inverted, the write data values are inverted before being written. Inversion of data values and tracking of inverted memory blocks may be performed by a specialized memory controller or by a processor executing secure memory code. Data remanence is thus prevented in the memory.

  • Patent number: 9280773
Abstract: A DRM compliance system can include one or more DRM servers, capture devices capable of continuously encrypting content at capture, and one or more rights compliance software applications. Methods of ensuring DRM compliance can include registering and verifying capture devices prior to the presentation of protectable content. Unique IDs associated with the capture devices may be stored as DRM liens in a DRM server along with particular time periods an identified DRM policy is in effect. The rights compliance software application can consult a DRM server to determine if encrypted content captured by a device is subject to a DRM policy. The server can make such a determination based on attempting to match data identifying the capture device and time of capture to one or more DRM liens. When matches are found, applicable DRM policies are applied by decrypting the content and then rendering the content in a DRM-compatible form.

  • Patent number: 9256871
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for the generation and use of merchant-customizable token formats that define tokens that represent credit card and other payment numbers in online transactions. The tokens, which are used instead of the card numbers themselves for security, can be specified by the token format to have a certain number of characters, have certain fields reserved for major card identifiers, use encryption and/or randomization, be alphanumeric, and have other formatting. The customized tokens can be used with legacy equipment that uses longer or shorter card numbers than the standard sixteen-digit payment card number format and can be less likely to be recognized as related to card numbers by identify thieves.
