Abstract: A simulation method for the resolution of the power control convergence problem. The power to be transmitted by each mobile station and each base station to assure a proper Qos in the system are computed in an iterative way. At each iterative step, the powers to be received are derived from the level of interference received at the previous iterative step by each network element. Once this is done for each network element, the interference levels are then refreshed. The iterations stop when the biggest gap between estimated and observed interference levels is below a given threshold. One embodiment includes deriving in one step all the power levels to be transmitted by one base station towards many users, assuming a given stable extra cell interference level. In addition, the invention includes a method for taking the dynamic range of power control in both uplink and downlink, and a method for simulation of power control while in the soft handover.

  • Patent number: 6807418
Abstract: A communication device locates a preferable wireless service provider in a multi-service provider environment using a frequency band search schedule. Initially, the communications device registers with a less preferred service provider in a first frequency band. While remaining registered with the less preferred service provider, the device examines several frequency bands in the order specified by the frequency band search schedule. A frequency band is examined by dividing the frequency band into many sub-bands, and by locating the strongest signal above a threshold within the sub-band being examined. The examination continues until a second frequency band having a more preferred service provider is located. The communication device then registers with the more preferred service provider. The category of service provider may be identified and displayed on the communication device.

  • Patent number: 6804535
Abstract: Even when data are transmitted between communication apparatuses, the data time intervals can be synchronized between the transmitting and receiving sides. Information that pertains to the interval of data transmitted from an information apparatus is appended to data, and that data is transmitted. A communication apparatus on the side of a communication partner that receives the data transmits data to an information apparatus on the basis of the received information that pertains to the interval of data. Variations of data intervals can be suppressed, and the data intervals can be synchronized between the transmitting and receiving sides.

  • Patent number: 6804511
Abstract: The present invention provides a radio controlling apparatus that performs a change to a vacant channel rapidly to allow smooth control even if an uncontrollable state due to radio interference suddenly occurs. In a radio controlling transmission apparatus of the radio controlling apparatus, a reception section for searching a vacant channel is provided. When a vacant channel is detected, it is stored in memory of the radio controlling transmission apparatus. A transmission section transmits control signals, a selection code, and vacant channel data, the control signals being output by an operation section using a control signal transmission timer and a selection code transmission timer. Using a reception section, a controlled apparatus of the radio controlling apparatus receives signals. If the vacant channel data and the selection code are received, the controlled apparatus stores them in memory of the controlled apparatus.

Abstract: A radio system includes a base station and a remote station. The base station includes a space-time encoder, an antenna system, a transmitter, a base station receiver, and a power management controller. The space-time encoder encodes a stream of symbols into first and second space-time coded signals, and the transmitter transmits the first and second space-time coded signals at respective first and second initial transmit powers from the antenna system so as to form respective first and second radiation patterns. The base station receiver receives power coefficient indicator information from the remote station, and the power management controller determines first and second adjusted transmit powers based on the respective first and second initial transmit powers and the power coefficient indicator information. In an alternative embodiment, a transmit station of a radio system includes a circuit to determine an angular power spectrum, a space-time encoder, and a transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6788957
Abstract: To enable a use of a two-band type mobile telephone with a dual radiation circuit, a selector switch is placed between this dual radiation circuit and transmission channels in each of these bands. Given the emergence of the second harmonic resulting from the presence of the selector switch, the undesirable components are filtered with a filter. A part of the reactive components of this filter is between the radiating circuit and the selector switch, while the other part is in the channel to be filtered. Depending on the nature of the channel, the other part in the channel to be filtered has different values.

  • Patent number: 6785553
Abstract: A method and system for using two-way ranging navigation to accurately determine the location of a transponder platform above-Earth or a fixed or mobile target on the ground or on water. The two-way ranging navigation measurements are used as calibration references, thereby improving the positioning accuracy of GPS. The system includes GPS and a two-way ranging navigation system for taking position measurements of a target. A correction factor is determined as a function of the measurements and the GPS position is adjusted by the correction factor. The method for calibrating GPS using two-way ranging navigation involves taking a two-way ranging navigation measurement and a GPS measurement of a target, determining a correction factor as a function of the measurements, and correcting the GPS position by taking a second GPS measurement and adjusting it by the correction factor.

  • Patent number: 6754512
Abstract: A wireless base station includes a determining unit, a first calculation unit and a control unit. The determining unit determines a direction in which a specified mobile station that is to be spatially-multiplexed is located. Then, the first calculating unit calculates a first parameter group, used to form a first directional pattern for each already connected mobile station that should be spatially-multiplexed with the specified mobile station. The first directional pattern is such that a null point is formed in the determined direction. After a link channel allocation has been transmitted to the specified mobile station, the control unit performs control, so that transmission is performed to each already connected mobile station by forming the corresponding first directional pattern and further by reducing transmission power uniformly in all directions.

  • Patent number: 6741839
Abstract: There is disclosed an ACP monitoring circuit for use in a wireless network comprising a plurality of base stations for communicating with a plurality of mobile devices. Each of the plurality of base stations comprises an RF transmitter that receives an input baseband signal and an RF carrier signal and produces a modulated RF output signal that is then amplified. The ACP monitoring circuit monitors adjacent channel power (ACP) noise in the RF output signal. The ACP monitoring circuit comprises: 1) an RF mixer having a first input receiving the RF output signal and a second input receiving the RF carrier signal and produces a scaled output signal on an output of the RF mixer; and 2) a first power detection circuit coupled to the RF mixer output that determines a power level of the ACP noise outside an allocated channel bandwidth of the RF transmitter.
