  • Patent number: 10019082
Abstract: A position pointer includes a first electrode disposed so as to project from one end portion of a pen-shaped housing in an axial direction; a second electrode disposed in a proximity of the first electrode so as to surround a center axis of the pen-shaped housing; and a signal generation circuit which, in operation, generates a given signal. The signal generated by the signal generation circuit is outputted to a sensor provided in a position detection apparatus. The signal generation circuit, in operation, generates a signal of a first signal level and a signal of a second signal level lower than the first signal level. A signal supply controlling circuit, in operation, selectively supplies the signal of the first signal level and the signal of the second signal level generated by the signal generation circuit to the second electrode.

Abstract: An apparatus comprises a fingerprint sensor having a set of capacitive elements configured for capacitively coupling to a user fingerprint. The fingerprint sensor may be disposed under a control button or display element of an electronic device, for example one or more of a control button and a display component. A responsive element is responsive to proximity of the user fingerprint, for example one or both of a first circuit responsive to motion of the control button, and a second circuit responsive to a coupling between the fingerprint and a surface of the display element. The fingerprint sensor is disposed closer to the fingerprint than the responsive element. The control button or display component may include an anisotropic dielectric material, for example sapphire.

  • Patent number: 9983717
Abstract: Inputs to a projected or other type of displayed user interface are verified with a verification device that enhances input detection accuracy. For example, inputs at a projected keyboard are detected by an infrared curtain projected over the keyboard and breached by an end user finger as it strikes a key. The inputs are verified with a capacitive sensor device disposed below the keyboard that confirms a user touch. Alternatively, proximity sensing by the capacitive sensor measures distance and velocity associated with a finger to verify the inputs detected by breaching of the infrared curtain are intended inputs. Other verification devices may include an accelerometer that detects accelerations associated with inputs and three dimensional cameras that capture finger positions. Verification devices may be selectively enabled based upon power and accuracy constraints.

  • Patent number: 9983742
Abstract: An electronic device has a display and has a touch sensitive bezel surrounding the display. Areas on the bezel are designated for controls used to operate the electronic device. Visual guides corresponding to the controls are displayed on the display adjacent the areas of the bezel designated for the controls. Touch data is generated by the bezel when a user touches an area of the bezel. The device determines which of the controls has been selected based on which designated area is associated with the touch data from the bezel. The device then initiates the determined control. The device can have a sensor for determining the orientation of the device. Based on the orientation, the device can alter the areas designated on the bezel for the controls and can alter the location of the visual guides for the display so that they match the altered areas on the bezel.

  • Patent number: 9964767
Abstract: A display apparatus includes a transparent substrate having first and second sides, an array of LED micro-display panels, and an array of collimating reflectors. The LED micro-display panels are disposed within the transparent substrate between the first and second sides and oriented to emit sub-image portions of a display image towards the first side. The collimating reflectors are disposed within the transparent substrate between the first side and the array of LED micro-display panels. The collimating reflectors are aligned with the LED micro-display panels to reflect the sub-image portions back out the second side of the transparent substrate. The LED micro-display panels are offset from the collimating reflectors to expand the sub-image portions prior to reflection by the collimating reflectors.
