Patent number: 6431904Abstract: The invention is comprised of a cable assembly having a cable, a modular plug, and a molded stress relief body. The cable includes at least one twisted wire pair of a given length and at least one outer jacket that surrounds a portion of the length of the twisted wire pair, wherein each individual wire of the twisted wire pair is comprised of a conductor wire and an outer insulator. The modular plug includes an uppermost surface and a receiving cavity to establish an electrical connection with the cable. A molded stress relief body is used to cover at least a portion of the cable and the modular plug. To reduce the amount of stress and strain encountered by and between the modular plug and the cable, the molded stress relief body is molded about, or bonded to, at least a portion of the twisted wire pair that is not surrounded by the outer jacket of the cable.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2000Date of Patent: August 13, 2002Assignee: Krone, Inc.Inventor: Timothy N. Patent number: 6386890Abstract: The present invention provides a method and structure for connecting a module to a printed circuit board, wherein a substantially rigid interposer having resilient conductors is disposed between a module and a printed circuit board. A clamping means urges the module and printed circuit board toward each other with compressive force upon an interposer positioned therebetween, preferably causing the module and printed circuit board to deform and thereby align their electrical contacts with the surfaces of the interposer. The interposer further comprises a plurality of apertures, each aperture further having a deformable resilient conductor means for connecting a module contact to a PCB contact. The conductor is deformable in shear, which may travel and, therefore, makeup the CTE dimensional mismatch between the module and the PCB. The conductors are detachable, electrically connecting the module and PCB contacts without the requirement of solder or other permanent means.Type: GrantFiled: March 12, 2001Date of Patent: May 14, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Anilkumar Chinuprasad Bhatt, William Louis Brodsky, Benson Chan

Patent number: 6310779Abstract: The system provided attaches a cartridge-type central processor unit (CPU) to a motherboard and includes a first device, a second device and a third device. The first device has a slot for receiving the cartridge-type CPU. The second device is disposed below the motherboard to fortify the strength of the motherboard. The third device functions to attach the first device and the motherboard to the second device. The weight of the cartridge-type CPU, via the first device and the third device, is substantially transferred to the second device with the second device being a primary carrier of weight of the cartridge-type CPU. Since weight of the cartridge-type CPU is not carried by the motherboard, motherboard will experience no damage.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1999Date of Patent: October 30, 2001Assignee: Asustek Computer Inc.Inventor: Li-Chung Wang

Patent number: 6299456Abstract: An interposer having an array of contact structures for making temporary electrical contact with the leads of a chip package. The contact structures may make contact with the leads substantially as close as desired to the body of the chip package. Moreover, the contact structures can be adapted for making contact with leads having a very fine pitch. In a first embodiment, the contact structures include raised members formed over a body of the interposer. A conductive layer is formed over each of the raised members to provide a contact surface for engaging the leads of the chip package. In another embodiment, the raised members are replaced with depressions formed into the interposer. A conductive layer is formed on an inside surface of each depression to provide a contact surface for engaging the leads of the chip package. Moreover, any combination of raised members and depressions may be used.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 1998Date of Patent: October 9, 2001Assignee: Micron Technology, Inc.Inventors: James M. Patent number: 6280257Abstract: The present invention is drawn to a system for attaching and supporting a cable to an IO panel of an electronic component such as the IO back panel of a computer. The system is comprised of a cable dock coupled to an IO panel, with a gasket disposed within the cable dock to form a conducting path from the IO panel to the cable backshell. In particular, a cable dock is fixed to the IO panel where an IO connector is exposed. Once the cable backshell is plugged into the cable dock, the cable dock provides mechanical support for a cable assembly comprising the cable-end connector, the cable backshell and the cable. The cable assembly is secured by the cable dock rather than by the coupling made between the cable-end connector and the IO connector. The cable dock also orients the cable-end connector in coupling to the IO connector such that the cable backshell is prevented from being incorrectly plugged into the cable dock.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2000Date of Patent: August 28, 2001Assignee: Silicon Graphics, Inc.Inventors: Dave North, Steve Dean

Patent number: 6276947Abstract: A grounding clip having a generally U-shape spring clamp having first and second opposing walls extending from a curved base portion thereof, the first and second walls each having a leading edge portion opposite the curved base portion. The spring clamp is fastenable to a panel with the curved base portion disposed over the panel edge, the first wall of the spring clamp adjacent one side of the panel and the second wall thereof adjacent the other side of the panel. A wire fastening member, preferably the crimping type, extends from first wall of the spring clamp between the curved base portion of the spring clamp and the leading edge portion thereof. When the spring clamp is fastened to the panel, the wire fastening member and wire fastened thereto are adjacent the corresponding side of the panel and spaced apart from the panel edge, whereby only the curved base portion of the grounding clip protrudes beyond the panel edge.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1999Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignee: Illinois Tool WorksInventors: Kent D.
