  • Patent number: 8584485
Abstract: An aircraft cooling system evaporator arrangement has an evaporation device including four evaporators that are hydraulically separate from each other with respect to coolant flow. Refrigerant flows from a feed line into first and second evaporators, from the first evaporator into and through a third evaporator, and from the second evaporator into and through a fourth evaporator. The first and third evaporators define a first pair of evaporators arranged parallel to a second pair of evaporators defined by the second and fourth evaporators. First and second coolant supply lines of a first coolant circuit supply coolant to one of the evaporators in each of the first and second pair of evaporators respectively, and first and second coolant supply lines of a second, independent coolant circuit supply coolant to the other of the evaporators in each of the first and second pair of evaporators respectively.

  • Patent number: 8567207
Abstract: A system for controlling a centrifugal gas compressor (108) in an HVAC, refrigeration or liquid chiller system (100) in which flow of gas through the compressor is automatically controlled to maintain desired parameters within predetermined ranges so as to prevent stall and surge conditions within the system. A variable geometry diffuser (119) in the compressor controls the refrigerant gas flow at the discharge of the compressor impeller wheel (201). This arrangement reduces mass flow, decrease/eliminate flow-reducing stall, and increases the operating efficiency of the compressor at partial load conditions. The variable geometry diffuser control in combination with a variable speed drive (VSD) (120) increases the efficiency of the compressor at partial system loads, and eliminates the need for pre-rotation vanes at the inlet of the centrifugal compressor.

  • Patent number: 8567206
Abstract: A vehicle air conditioning system includes a controller that initially controls operation of a compressor to switch between inactive and active states in response to detecting that an operating condition is equal to or surpasses a first operation threshold. The controller determines a first time delay occurring between initiating the switch from one of the inactive and active states to the other of the compressor, and an actual change in the operating condition. The controller subsequently defines a first limit that is offset from the first operation threshold such that the controller controls the operation of the compressor to subsequently switch from the one of inactive and active states to the other in response to detecting that the operating condition is equal to or surpasses the first limit.

  • Patent number: 8561422
Abstract: A tube (20) with outer and inner walls (22, 24) and webbing (26) between them. The inner wall (24) forms a cylindrical inner chamber (28) that slidably receives drink cans (50) end-to-end. Spaces between the inner and outer walls, and between the webbing, form longitudinal thermal chambers (23) surrounding the inner wall for receiving thermal packs (48) along the length of the inner chamber (28). Convection paths (32) between the thermal chambers (23) and the inner chamber (28) provide air circulation for efficient heat transfer. The inner chamber has an access opening (29) at the front end of the tube for receiving and dispensing the drink cans. An elevator (40) in the inner chamber may be provided to move drink cans toward the access opening via cords or rods (44) extending from the front end of the tube that pull the elevator toward the front end of the tube.
